Should be a very interesting year in the conference. Its is going to be very competitive especially at the top. Weddington only lost one senior from last year's team. Sun Valley has a lot of good players returning and Marvin Ridge has a heavy senior laden team. Don't know about Anson or Parkwood but I know Porter Ridge lost about 12 seniors from their team that made that deep run in the playoffs last year so they are going to need a lot of guys step up.

This should be an exciting conference this year.

Marvin Ridge- Lost Haag (big time catcher and hitter) and Corgan (1B) to graduation. They have the players to fill the defense, but replacing Haag's bat will be tuff. Chadwick and Peart will again get most of the innings on the mound. Questions for the season...who will eat up the relief innings?

Porter Ridge- They are going to almost have a completely new line up after loosing so many seniors. Roeder and Flores will have to take up the leadership reins for them to be successful. Most of this seasons lineup will have had very little, if any Varsity experience.

Sun Valley- This will be a strong contender this year. They lose a number of Seniors, but bring back Timberlake, Blythe, Barr, and the one man wrecking crew in Ryan Smith. Smith will continue to eat up innings on the mound and continue to be a very tuff out at the plate.

Weddington- Lost Boone (county HR leader) to graduation and word is Kersknowski may not play (he's bulking up for College football). Playing young and earning your worth should pay off for Weddington this year. 7 of 9 starters will return. The middle infielders are working their 3rd season together (Honeycutt SS, Prillaman 2B). Innings will be eaten up by Newsome and Spivey (both Wingate signees) Relief innings will be eaten up by Langevin, Bostic, and Shellhorn. With all of the returning talent, this team is ready to defend the conference title.

My guess for the league standings:

    Weddington
    Sun Valley
    Marvin Ridge
    Parkwood
    Porter Ridge
    Anson

Marvin Ridge Mavericks may have one of the fastest - and most experienced outfields in the state with Josh Furguson, Zach Lax and Brett Thompson (Lafayette College commit)- All three seniors.

MR does have a strong outfield. I'm very familiar with all three. They also have the best base stealer in the county (possibly in the State) in JC Howze. The Cupboard is definitely not empty at MR.

Pitching is the Key to any ball club. The two starters that I'm aware of are good, I'm just not sure if the bull pen will be able to hang on once Chadwick and Peart are pulled from the mound. With the power in this conference and on some of the non-conference teams they're playing...these three outfielders may be required to show their speed often.

I have no idea if he is going to play. He pitched some good innings for them last year. With his size, he is an imposing figure on the mound. That will be a big loss for the Mav's if they do not have those innings from him and his bat.

The coach is probably looking for some relief pitching under his Christmas tree.

Hunter is playing this year.....he will have to get back into the pitching form he was in last year if he is going to be able to fill some of those relief innings. He is a big kid who filled out a lot playing football this season and is going to be an everyday player but just needs to get some good conditioning in so he can get back to pitching shape. Some of the underclassmen will have to step up this year to fill in some of the relief duties as well...a strong offensive league this year and quality starts will be at a premium.
