I am new to American Legion baseball in Charlotte. What posts in and around Charlotte sponsor teams and how do you contact coaches for a tryout? I understand you should play at the post closest to your residence. Is that a requirement or simply desired? The legion.org site was not very useful.

Where does your son go to school? There are some good programs in Charlotte: Pineville, Charlotte and Huntersville to name three. Most squads are dominated by seniors and freshmen college players simply because most undergrad players in Charlotte are playing some kind of travel/showcase ball.

We have some knowledgeable Legion posters in here and a few of the coaches. Whatever info you can provide, we can get you some help.

National registration is just now beginning. Follow the link below to see registered teams. Sorry I don't know Charlotte area legion as well as I know other areas. You could also see NC contact and call him for info on the site below.

Catholic is closet to Pineville. However, just because someone attends Char. Cath. does not mean that they live anywhere near the school.

Remember, Catholic is a private school playing in the public system. They have children from all over the greater Charlotte area attending the school.

I would have to believe that their coach would know the contact info, at least for the Pineville team. From there, I bet they would be able to help you based on the young man's home address.

    Good Luck!

Dbacks20 was/is the assistant for Pineville Legion and Mike Edwards is the HC. He is the assistant at Charlotte Latin.

Pete Snell, owner of Grand Slam in Mathews was an assistant for many years. Pete will know everybody and anybody to contact about the Legion eligibility in Charlotte.

Greg Clewis, AD at Myers Park, has been the HC of Charlotte Post for many, many years. Again, he can tell you where your eligibility resides. There are so many rules about where one can play for that I don't want to make a mistake. So I ask that you contact these gentlemen.

    Dbacks you can PM

EDIT- Okay here is the information you will need:http://www.thisboardrocks.com/forum/showthread.php?t=168637&highlight=Pineville+Legion

I am Coach Edwards of American Legion Pineville Post 337. If anyone needs help in connecting with their appropriate Legion Post in the Mecklenburg County area, feel free to contact me at:

    [email protected] or (704) 560-4133

American Legion baseball is a great organization to be a part of and it definitely will fit the needs of alot of players, both Junior (17 and under) and Senior (19 and under). I understand that the rules can be confusing if you have never heard them, but can easily be explained.

I would like to take this time to thank TBR and all of its members for all of the support, for not only American Legion baseball in our area, but for contributing to baseball for all of the young players.

The Catholic players played for Charlotte Post last summer. I talked to Coach Clewis the other day and he said he was counting on a couple of them to play again this summer. I would contact him at Myers Park HS as he is still the acting AD there. Do it soon as he is scheduled to retire in the next several days and may not be as easy to get ahold of then.
