    Not a good idea!!

I do like the idea of entertaining music between innings and when the bullpen has been called on. I question doing it when a new batter is approaching the plate. Are you trying to tell the fans and other players something about the player and/or his character or simply what his favorite song is? Personally I prefer having the game situation on my mind.
As you might expect from my username, I prefer emulating the college game. Since I have been there, believe me college scouts are not positively impressed with this NBA - like entertainment. What's next? Playing the left fielder's favorite song after he catches a routine fly ball and is returning the ball to the infield?
    Let's keep it BASEBALL!!!
    Just my opinion.

You do realize they play walk up songs in college, right? I doubt scouts--ML or college--give it much thought.

Mr. BRAVES, thank you for sharing that. I can only cite my most recent experiences. Two games at East Carolina this weekend: no walk-up music. I also attended EVERY College World Series game in Omaha last year. Guess what? No walk-up music! But I defer to your authority, as you seem to lean heavily on it. No future in expressing opinions here.
    Respectfully,

Wow...you're kidding, right? That's all we do here is give opinions. I just mentioned that colleges, also, have walk up music...and that scouts (at least the many I know) really don't care one way or another. I didn't say if I liked it or not.

But there really wasn't any need for the off hand remark about my authority and that I lean heavily on it. If that was the case, I doubt TBR would have been here for 9 years.... most message boards don't last a year.

Edit: By the way, All SEC teams use them and each player decides his own. And I heard them all day at Wingate, as well as other schools. It's not that big a deal to get in a war of words with. It's just that you remarked that you wish it was done like college and I pointed out that colleges use them, too. Everybody is going to follow the major leagues. If they're doing it, you can expect it will filter down.

By the way, while all schools could not use walk ups at the CWS, that doesn't mean they didn't want to. It was eliminated by the NCAA's during playoffs starting in '09

Alex Burrell-"Sweet Child O' Mine" by Guns 'n Roses
Patrick Sullivan-"You're The Best" by Joe Eposito

Atta boy Braves! When somebody gets smart and you come back with facts like that it just makes me miss Carolina Man even more. I hope NCAArules isn't an American Legion fan. If he is, he has about 3 months to lighten up a little bit.

    Geez... again really?

Thanks Braves for the list of songs. THATS WHY I STARTED THE THREAD! (Not to ask for opinions on whether or not having walkup songs is a good idea. Feel free to keep arguing, but all I am paying attention to are the suggested songs. Trust me, I am going to keep doing it. AND guess what? I even do it when we host middle school baseball, and they LOVE IT!!!)

Braves' list is awesome. Where did you come up with or find those?

If you want a NEW song that is different than most than this is the one for you. It was started by a Texas Univ stud hitter and it just "intimidated" the other team when it was played as his walk up song---an amazing song! Also, to give this story some legs, the player was sitting out this game for a rest against Kansas. The coach brought him in as a pinch hitter at a crucial time of the game. The song was played while he was getting ready to bat. The other team related later that they were "intimidated" by the player and the song....and the player took care of the rest by hitting a HR.

I bet you are right. Plus, parts of it can be a good intro to the beginning of the game when the starting pitcher is doing warmups.

    even in MLB

Even the pros use walk up music. the following is a list of music preferred by some pro players. Most players embrace the chance to choose a walk out song, and sometimes they even put in a lot of time thinking of "the perfect song." Some feel it makes them play better. Some say it just makes them more relaxed, or puts them into a routine. Sometimes players have reasons for choosing a certain song, and sometimes they just like the beat. It's definitely a cool perk of the ballparks when you get to hear the specifically chosen song by the player himself. Most the time fans connect with the players through these songs, because they get to learn more about their favorite players personality. The Cubs and the A's are two clubs that don't feature walk out songs. Some parks play funny songs for the visiting club, like the Desperate Housewives theme song for Evan Longoria. When Joe Crede came back to the Southside for the first time with the Twins, the Sox played "I'm all out of love" by Airsupply. It livens up the ballparks and the fans get a good laugh. Its a powerful moment for the ballplayer as he gets ready for his at bat, and it can completely change his approach and get him in the right frame of mind. Some have told me that it helps them drown out the crowd and focus on the at bat, too.

Currently, the Oakland A's are getting the fans involved to pick out a warm up song for their closer, Brad Ziegler. Their choices? Breathe into me, which was his song in 07 and 08 in the minors, Duck and Run by 3 Doors Down, Fade Away by 12 Stones (he loves the guitar intro), Haunted by Disturbed, or One X by Three Days Grace (his walkout song in 2006). It really turns into a capivating experience for a player and the fans, but is sometimes overlooked by others. I know I typically don't even notice walk out songs because I spend the majority of my time at a field that doesn't feature them- Wrigley. Although, when Kerry Wood became our closer last year, I loved being a part of the voting as the fans got to help him chose his song to warm up to, Welcome to the Jungle. Closer's songs tend be the most electrifying throughout the stadium- think Hell's Bells and Enter Sandman, for example.

Many baseball purists prefers the original house organ music or sometimes not even anything at all. I don't especially prefer that myself, but it is what I am use to. In the stadiums that do have walk up music, there tends to be common trends, espeically when it comes to the genre of music choice. ESPN held a poll of the top 50 players in the majors and found that 51.2% of them had some type of rock song. (See diagram below)[IMG]
