Just thinking that since the college bats have been changed, how would they compare to the bats we used in hs and college in the late 70's and early 80's. I know that if you hit 6 or 7 hr's in HS back then you were a pretty good power guy. In college 12 to 15 were pretty big numbers. I think the new college bat is a lot like those bats and there were still hr's hit but you had to hit the smaller sweet spot.

    I've got a 34" green Easton(like a light pole) and 32" Black Magic from circa 1987.
Will part with - but only for BIG DOLLARS!

it seems like each year, the new bat is supposed to make you hit the ball further. But I remember people hitting the ball 400 feet years ago, so shouldnt kids be hitting the ball 600 feet or so now consistently??? with the new and improved bats??/

I never got to hit with metal bats in school, but the HR hitters had no trouble "parking" the balls.

To me there was no better feeling than hitting a ball with a wooden bat. To hear that "thwack...crack" and not ever feeling the ball make contact in your hands...whew, that was sweet!

By the way, I swung a "pole." 34/36 with a fat handle. I loved that bat until one of our pitchers broke it. Right then and there I subscribed to the theory that pitchers shouldn't bat.:bigok:

The first aluminum bats i had back in the late 70's were a Tennesse Thumper and that heavy ole Worth aluminum. Those things were heavier than a light pole.

Thumpers, Green Eastons, Easton black magic, Louisville Slugger had a gold bat that was the first I used in hs. Then in college the Thumper was used a lot till the green easton came out. I think the new college bat would still have more pop than those bats and are a lot lighter. Point being good hitters are going to be good hitters no matter what but the average hitter now will be exposed a lot more.
