    ECU baseball

After an impressive opening debut weekend as the starting SS for ECU, my boy struggled pretty hard against UVA the following weekend. So much so, that he hasn't seen another start. I keep reminding him to continue to work hard and use that as motivation. He continues to get into games and tries to make an impact where he can. Last Saturday, he was able to score the tying run in game 2 against Pepperdine, but the boys fell short in the end, losing in extra innings. Last night though, against the High Point team that recruited him so heavily, he was able to come in the game late, in a tie ball game, and in the bottom of the 9th inning, drive in the winning run. I wish I were there to see him jump into the jungle. This was the best birthday present he could've given me. Yay Pirates. Yay son.

Thanks and Great to Hear About the Guys

Jeff Baker here - First, thank-you for the kind words about Alex. His first start was a huge piece of humble pie, but he got the nerves out and he has settled down nicely since then...we have a good defense which he benefitted from in high school and travel ball as well.

Great to hear about the boys of south Charlotte....
Jack Reinheimer starting as SS for ECU as a true freshman !
Cody Shelton leading the Wingate team in BA!
Ashton Lover getting the closer role right away!
Ryan Butler pitching great for Marshall !
Grant Fisher getting some great innings for awesome Elon program!
Michael Atz coming back from the surgeries and doing great!
Brian Holberton playing as a true freshman at UNC!
    Ryan Wiese playing great!
Watch out for Tyler Lewis - he will make noise soon enough!

    And the "older" guys...
Alex Wood shutting down #10 UCLA!
    Brad Collins hitting .310 !
Ryan Stetson hitting and running like crazy!
Preston Shuey is a beast setting the RBI record!

I know I am leaving some out - but wow this is hard to keep up with - so many great guys and families. Glad to see the fun and hard work paying off. Congrats to all !

mine is struggling with the jump in level of competition. hard to watch.

he's at the point in his life that he needs training and to put in the work to get better. what's the best way to encourage him?

Hey Jeff! Congrats to Alex!!! I can't wait until he's a Senator and I can say I knew him when!!

It is soooo exciting to read about and hear about all the great things that our boys are doing. On Tues., I headed up to Elon to see the Elon/ECU game. The Fishers sat with me (in a crowd that was definitely more ECU than Elon). At the end of the game, it was heartwarming to watch Jack embrace both Jordan Darnell and Grant Fisher. These boys are all brothers and no matter what Jersey they wear, they still pull for one another. It's GREAT!

    p.s. I love baseball. hahahhahahaa

Jack Gets a Pie in the Face - LOL !!!

The video on TV of Jack getting the pie in the face during the TV interview is awesome ! Keep that so you can match it up with the one where he gets a pie in the face for his first professional walk off....I am confident that we will get to see that day come very soon. Congrats !

    My fingers are crossed

I just hope mine gets in the lineup and back on the field tonight. Good to hear how well everyone's sons have been playing, it has been a rough couple of weeks and you all have helped me keep my baseball sanity.
