    Saw an odd one yesterday.

Girls on 2nd and 3rd. Pitch gets by the catcher and rolls under a hole in the fence barely big enough for the ball to fit. Girls on 2nd and 3rd were not stealing and had no intention of stealing (game was already over). Ump calls dead ball and awards both runners a base. Hadn't seen that before.

    Right call?

Probably, technically the right call. My guess anyway!

Dead ball situation from the infield, runners advance one base.

One base from time of pitch if ball goes out of play from the pitcher's plate. Two bases from time of release from any where else

Was that part of the fence discussed at the plate meeting with the coaches? If so dead ball.

I wasn't there for the plate meeting but do not believe it was discussed. It was a small hole that you wouldn't look twice at.

Whether or not it is discussed in the plate conference has no bearing on this issue. A fence is a boundary and if it goes under, through or gets lodged in the fence its a dead ball.
