The home run in question was a smash by any measure and Michael Russell is putting up some incredible numbers...could probably go 0-20 and still be batting .400 for the season.

    St. David's wakes up...

with a 15-3 pasting of the O'Neal School. Matt Comer and Alex Stone go deep for the Warriors while Spencer Hunt picks up the win.

    Hopewell 6...Mooresville 3

Hopewell hosted Mooresville in an I-Meck matchup, winning 6-3 on timely hitting, and solid pitching from starter Jordan Blair, who fanned 9 while walking 3 batters. Blair was in command from the start and he was most effective against Mooresville's top hitters, using a big overhand curveball and a nice change up to rack up some key strikeouts on ill-timed swings. Mooresville's starter, Keith Little struck out 8 in 5 innings, but gave up some key hits with runners in scoring position.

Hopewell scored in the first inning when Justin Hammond lined a sharp single to center on the first pitch he saw to plate two runs. In the third inning, Hopewell loaded the bases without the benefit of a hit and then Hunter Conley went with an outside fastball and drove it hard down into the left field corner for a bases clearing double much to the disagreement of the visiting Mooresville fans who were looking for some help from the umpires, but didn't get any satisfaction. Hopewell closed out their scoring in the 5th inning when Michael Russell led off with a scorcher to left center for a stand up double and Joe Bertone followed with an RBI single off a 2 strike curveball.

Blair lost his shutout in the 6th inning when Ryan Brennan homered to left field, scoring two runs. After walking two runners in the 7th inning, Blair was pulled and Hunter Conley was summoned to close it out and he retired the next two batters to end the game.

Mallard Creek 7 North Meck 6

A wonderful, packed house and enthusiastic crowd at Mallard Creek. NM went into game 4-0-0 in I-Meck conference. I do not have stats but if anyone does, please post.
Turning point in the game was an unbelievable DP turned by MC with bases loaded and one out in the 4th or 5th inning. It was the kind of ball hit where you say "ain't no way they will even get one out on that one." The Mustangs might have the best 2nd base combination in the state with Gamecock-bound Mikal Hill and Soph. Kirk Morgan. They both have great baseball savy with wonderful gloves and arms and cause trouble for their opponents every time they come to bat.
What a great night at Mallard Creek and the I-Meck can be proud of the competitive spirit shown by both teams.
