Do athletes have to register with NCAA Clearinghouse in order to be recruited?

welcome to this board rocks, and the answer is yes, a college coach cannot and doesnt dare talk to a potential recruit unless they have registered with the clearinghouse

    Not quite

There is no obligation, whatsoever, to register with the NCAA Clearinghouse for any DIII institution. Coaches may have contact with players and vice versa.

Oh, my bad, you are correct, DIII not required.....i have a horrible mind set for DI and D2, sometimes forgetting about D3. Its not required, but I know of quite a few D3 and Juco college coaches who prefer that you do....

CD, do you require your kids to register? just curious

    Timeline?

When should an athlete register? I hear during their junior year, but can you do it earlier? Any advantages/disadvantages to waiting?

Clearinghouse is a mechanism to standardize admission requirements for Div 1 and 2.
D3, each individual institution has their own admission requirement.

Clearinghouse has nothing to do with $$$, just that test scores and transcripts are valid.

Most all athletes register, D1 - D3, as they are going through the recruitment jungle....

    an advantage...

...to registering early for one of my kids was that they played their freshman year at one high school and transferred to another high school after that year. we began the registering process end of her sophomore year and it took her first school until the fall of her senior year to get her transcript to the ncaa. a bit disconcerting.

Cheeze...you are wrong on this one. A college coach can talk to a potential recruit regardless of whether or not they have registered with the Clearinghouse.

However, a prospective student-athlete MAY NOT take an official visit without registering for the Clearinghouse.

Another poster asked about when they should register....as soon as possible. If you have any thoughts and dreams about playing college ball, register for the Clearinghouse. It doesn't really matter until their senior year, but the earlier the better.

yeah, wrong on this one, but I was drawing on the thought that an offer cant be made until you've gone through the clearinghouse.

cant be right all the time....back to the books :book:
