    Status of Weddington Baseball

After a very difficult non conference schedule, Weddington now stands at 4-3. Being tested through the gauntlet of AK (L 0-2),Butler(L 0-1),Piedmont (W8-2), Charlotte Christian (L 8-12), Cuthbertson (W1-0), Myers Park (W6-4), and Hickory Ridge (W12-2), they now look ready to begin conference play on Tuesday against Parkwood.

Pitching is always key to winning games. Seniors Spivey and Newsome are proving to be tuff to get hits on. They've really taken control of the game when they have the ball in their hands. Senior Ryan Langevin continues to be solid in relief appearances eating up innings. Freshman Sean Collins is proving his metal throwing 4 innings while only giving up 2 hits. A great stat in any league, but when you look at who he's faced, it really is quite a feat. Schellhorn has been real impressive on the mound. The performance against AK to start the year was tremendous. Coach Poole has got to be just giddy with pitching staff on this years squad. He has a lot of options!

On the defensive side juniors Huneycutt and Prillaman are a solid tandem in the middle of the infield. The third season they've worked together on the Varsity squad, they are playing with a lot of confidence regularly combining for DP's. Catcher Andrew Knight is really helping his pitchers by consistantly blocking balls in the dirt. Not sure of the %, but not a lot of guys get to stay on 2nd after trying to steal. Most who try to steal are finding a light jog back to the bench in order.

While a few errors have cost the team, the overall play has been very good. Should they be able to limit the damage when errors happen, they look to be ready to repeat as conference Champions.

.....Looking forward to the 2nd quarter of the Season.

    Marvin Ridge 2

    Anson 2

Standings (correct me if any overall records are wrong):

    Weddington (5-3, 1-0)
    Marvin Ridge (3-4, 1-0)
    Sun Valley (3-5, 1-0)
    Porter Ridge (4-2, 0-1)

    mid week scores

    Marvin Ridge 14
    Myers Park 3

    Hough 12

From the looks of the early going, my prediction for the SCC becomes:

    3)Porter Ridge
    4)Sun Valley
    5)Parkwood
    6)Anson

Based on early results I would agree with the projections above. However, anytime Marvin and Weddington play each other previous results go out the window. Lot of passion between these two teams so it could come down to the head to head series. Weddington has also suffered the temporary loss of two key players to injury early in this season that will play into future results. Haven't seen Porter Ridge play yet, but based on their early results I can't count them out either.

Looking forward to continuing conference play tonight!

Is there a SCC full schedule somewhere like there is for the SW4A?

    Marvin, Porter Ridge, Weddington, Parkwood

Marvin 5 Porter Ridge 0 Don't have details other that Chadwick getting the win

    Weddington 3 Parkwood 2 in 9 innings

Weddington picked up its second conference win over Parkwood, but it did not come easy. Weddington wins 3-2 in the 9th. Don't have all the stats, but:

Colby Spivey pitched a solid game through 6.
David Pope came in relief to ultimately get the win.
Weddington had multiple chances to win the game but could not execute on advancing runners very well. In a game in which they needed to manufacture a run they struggled against Parkwood's pitching.

Daniel Bayha came up in the 9th with bases loaded, one out and got the winning run across with a sharply hit ball up the middle the was knocked down by the second baseman but was unable to make a play.

Chase Prillaman and Alex Morales both had good nights at the plate while Alex made a couple of great plays in center.

Parkwood's starting pitcher kept Weddington hitters off balance all night with a great mix of pitches and a very consistent and well located fast ball. (didn't get his name)

    Sun Valley 5
    Anson 6

in a sloppy game for the Spartans. 13 Hits, left 11 runners including bases loaded in the 1st and 7th. Four huge mistakes defensively led to all six of Anson's runs.

    Standings:

    Weddington (6-3, 2-0)
    Marvin Ridge (5-4, 2-0)
    Anson (4-3, 1-1)
    Sun Valley (3-7, 1-1)
    Porter Ridge (4-4, 0-2)
    Parkwood (3-5, 0-2)

    This week: SV-Parkwood, Weddington-PR, MR-Anson

PR pitcher throws a one hit hit gem facing one batter over the minimum while striking out 11. PR starts its "young" infield again with 1B-sophomore, 2B-freshman, SS-freshman, and 3B-sophomore.

    Parkwood 5
    Sun Valley 4 10 innings

Parkwood gets 4 in the first; SV hits 2 run HR in 7th to tie and force extra innings. Parkwood gets a run in the bottom of the 10th on a two out error. Otherwise, though, a pretty good high school baseball game.

    Anybody have Marvin Ridge/Anson?
