"Since 2006, Cary has gone through eight head coaches.

“It’s unfortunate,” Dunphy said. “Every team, every school always wants to find that guy that’s going to be there for ‘X’ number of years or forever like a [former Cary wrestling head coach] Jerry Winterton.”

What is their AD waiting on then? He's got one waiting on the call that would be their for X years from what it all sounds like.

My son played for Cary High and graduated in 2010. However, it would be disingenuous for me to suggest I know all the reasons for the constant turnover in the coaching staff. I was determined not to get involved in the parental politics that are present in any program. I also never spoke to a coach except to say "hello" or "good game."

There was one exception. Jere Morton coached my son as an assistant for two seasons at Cary and one season of legion ball. I did not know Jere before this time. Unbeknownst to me, he took it on himself to become my son's advocate in the recruiting scene. In time, Jere and I began comparing notes about my son's recruitment and developed a friendship.

My son had a different coach all four seasons at Cary. I grieved the fact he never had the consistency that would have helped him and the other players develop. I got angry about the demise of this once proud program, but I kept that anger to myself (unless griping to your wife counts). Still, to this day, it isn't hard for me to work up a good resentment when I think about it all.

In my better moments, though, I realize something very special happened for my son. He did have that coach all parents want their kid to have: the coach that cares for their child both as a person and a player; the coach who goes out of the way to help the kid grow up when he makes dumb mistakes; the coach who advocates for the player who dreams of playing in college. It just happens that the coach in this case was the assistant, not the head coach.

Thanks, J4, for being that coach for my son.

Name the Cary player and coach

Name the Cary High player and coach who told him he could not play for the Bulls. It is a myth spread by those who fear the inability of the Bulls to continue stacking the team. If it ever happen it was over 8 years ago.

I don't think you can nor should you post names here. And the Bulls team isn't the topic of this thread. The Bulls would need their own thread. This thread is about CHS and its need for leadership and continuity for its baseball program. This thread is about dedicated kids that were hoping to play baseball at the next level and now their dreams have been basically thrown away and no one seems to know why nor care. Apparently there is someone that wants the job. That is the point of this thread.

Cary High's administration continues to hire Varsity Head Coaches who do not have head coaching experience. Jere Morton, is without a doubt, a good guy, however, does not have head coaching experience in neither JV or Varsity. Until Cary brings in coaches who have head coaching experience, they will not succeed. Stop always blaming the parents. The last three Varsity coaches did not leave because of the parents. They left because, one, he did not have experience and was run by the legion coaches, two, left for family illness, and three, no head coaching experience and personal reasons.

Jere Jere Jere! Welcome to the show.

You can't get head coaching experience unless someone hires you to be a head coach. Jere deserves a chance!

But you do not start someone off at the top when they have no head coaching experience. They needed to bring him in at the JV head coaching position first. If you have no head coaching experience you do not hire someone for the top position and to run the whole program.

    J4 and the bulls

The name J4 was the subject, for the most part, of this thread. I did not bring it up. Also, it was someone else who brought up Cary coaches telling players they could not play for the bulls. It never happened.
