Watch some baseball, have some fun, and support a great cause!

    More information below

For those who may not know, Matt Cossa was a four year starter for the Green Hope High School baseball team. After graduating, Matt attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. As a junior, Matt was accepted into the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School just prior to losing his long battle with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in the spring of 2006.

In the spring of 2007, Matt’s family, former coaches, teammates, and friends gathered at the Green Hope baseball field to celebrate his life, his love of baseball, and to raise money to fight the disease which took his life.

This has now become an annual event, raising almost $100,000 over the subsequent three years, with all the proceeds now going to the Duke Cancer Institute. Please click here to learn more about the Matt Cossa Memorial Foundation - the only local fundraiser solely focused on raising research funds targeting blood cancers. As already noted, all proceeds will go to support local cancer research at the
    Duke Cancer Institute.

Edit: Dear Moderators, I would really appreciate a sticky on this post, at least until the event. Thank you!

Wow...thank you for sharing this. It sounds like a great event and a lot of fun, too. I'm glad you shared a little of Matt's life with us. I wish I had known him.

Matt was one of my very dear "baseball" friends. We spent many days together on the ballfield laughing and playing the game we loved. I will never forget him.

Thanks for sharing this info xpectus, I should have done so myself.

Quick story -- I wasn't given the gift of being very quick and I remember we used to joke that when we were running the bases either in the game or in practice, I better run a little quicker because Matt would most likely catch me if he was behind me.
Dang, I miss that guy. I will never forget the day that I heard he had passed... But I will never forget many of our memories whether it was at the ballfield, a friends house, a road trip and hotel, or a swimming pool.
