Do some (all) high schools recruit baseball players? Do players and or parents get any kind of incentive? I am not looking for kids's names; but I am interested in knowing if this goes on and how much. Is this a way of life at any particular schools? And is it more common at private or public schools?

    Thanks,

I hear ever now and again that such and such schools recruit, but honestly I don't think very much actual recruiting at the HS level goes on. Families do move into certain areas so their kid can play for certain schools or certain coaches but I don't think that is initiated by the HS coach. Parents want to give their kids the best opportunity possible and I don't blame them. Schools like an Ardrey Kell, or Providence, or South Caldwell, or TC Roberson, or a North Davidson, or East Rutherford may have kids move in to go to school there and play baseball, but the families want that for their kid. Thats not the coach recruiting these players to there schools. If I had a boy that was a baseball player and I was to move to Asheville or Charlotte or Caldwell County you better believe I would be moving into the area where my kid could play at the better baseball program and most would probably agree. So I don't think much recruiting happens in HS baseball by the HS coaches. The schools baseball program and there successes draw players in.

Exactly, I think what you find is players gravitate to the good programs---parents will do the rest.

But what the real question is do the players recruit? You betcha!

Coaches recruit, not directly but by reputation. Players recruit big time. But what really recruits is great coaching combined with top notch facilities. One of the top teams in the mountains this year didn't grow all their own.
