How can a Double elimination tournament, end with co- champions if one team enters the championship game undefeated, and the other team enters with a loss ? This happened in Concord NC in an AAU tournament this weekend. Just asking ??? Only 1st Place winners get rings ???

Well one good thing is that both teams get the rings!!If you play AAU enough you will figure out anything goes they never check team rosters so anyone can play for any team. They are the only sanction that allows a pitcher not to start her pitch with both feet on the rubber. If you keep playing it long enough you will figure them out pretty quickly $$$$.It is a pretty good place for a 1st year team just moving up to play but a 2nd year team I would say needs to play other sanctions NSA,ASA,USFA and WFC where the comp is better.

    Time issue

From my understanding, both coaches were given the option to do this or play the if game. With the rain Sat. the if game would not have ended till 9:30 or later. This was a 12U game and not sure how far the teams traveled (I think at least one was local). I believe they did this so the girls would not be so late getting to bed for school the next day.

Was this before or after the first game in the final round?

Not 100% sure on the details, but I think the decision was made after the championship game and were going to the "if" game.

It sounds like what you are saying is that the tourney was called before they could play the "IF" game, so at that point, they both would have had one loss on their record('Team A' had the loss coming into the championship round and 'Team B' suffered a loss in the first championship round game. This would make sense why they ruled co-champions.

Yes. They played the championship game and after that they both had 1 loss. After that, the coaches were given the choice to play the "if" game or be co-champions.

But the winner's bracket winner enters the finals without having knocked anyone out of the tournament and the loser's bracket winner enters the finals with more wins, plus has knocked at least one team out of the tournament.

Thank You for the information, I figured this was cut and dried early Sunday. Just hate it for teams that paid $275.oo and $30.00 sanction Fee that wasn't needed ! And all the little girls that placed 2nd and 3rd no trophies !!! Life is a learning lesson !!!

The top two finishing teams did get the trophies...there were only trophies for 1st and 2nd place...they both get the rings, and 1 free entry each to a future tournament. After the decision was made not to play the "IF" game the coaches agreed to flip a coin to see who would get the 1st place trophies and who would get the second place trophies.

There were also co-champions in one of the 14u brackets.
