South Meck 4...Charlotte Country Day 2

    CCDS…..000 010 1 ....2..8..0
    S. Meck 010 030 x ....4..8..2

    Pitching:

    CCDS Tyler Holloway 6 IP, 8H, 4R, 4ER, 1K, 3BB LP (4-1)
    SMeck Brain Pearlman 7 IP, 8H, 2R, 2ER, 3K, 3BB, WP

    Hitting:

CCDS Lee Harrison 2-4, triple, 2RBI
    CCDS Patrick Brady 2-3
    SMeck Brooks Kennedy 2-3, 2RBI
    SMeck Daniel Brown 2-3
    SMeck Tim Youtsey 1-2, RBI

South Meck snapped Country Day's 15-game winning streak in a game that saw lots of fly balls and few strikeouts. Chris Pearlman effectively pitched out of a couple of jams and South strung together 5 of their 8 hits in the 5th inning to score three runs. Lee Harrison got both RBIs for the Bucs, the last coming on a triple to the spacious left centerfield at Myers Park HS. Keisuke Ishekawa had a nice web gem, leaping to snag a hot line drive headed for the gap. The Bucs go to 15-2 for the season and 6-0 in conference play.

Fans were treated to an exciting and very well played game by two of the best teams in Charlotte. In the end, the Providence Panthers prevailed with a 2-run rally in the bottom of the 7th to take the victory, 6-5. Country Day starter Lee Harrison went the distance, scattering 10 singles and inducing an amazing seven tapouts to the mound. Things got very tight in the latter innings. Country Day pulled even at 3-3 in the top of the fifth on an RBI double by William Frazier into the RF corner and the Panthers bounced back to retake the lead in the bottom of the frame with a run on a couple of singles and a groundout. Going to the top of the 7th, the Bucs needed a run to tie and Patrick Brady got things started by taking an inside fastball off the forearm to start the rally. After two outs were recorded, the last Bucs hitter struck out on a sharp breaking ball that was not handled by the catcher. An odd-looking and errant throw to first allowed the game to continue when it looked to be over. Colin Walls followed with a sharp single down the line that was too hot to handle and the tying run scored from second base. Patrick Langdon battled the new Providence pitcher and with two strikes drove a high 80’s fastball down into the RF corner to score the go ahead run. The ball scooted under the fence and prevented another run from scoring. Trailing 5-4, the Panthers needed a rally for themselves and they bunched together an infield hit, a single, and a hit batsmen to load the bases and a soft single to right by Jake Fincher scored the tying and winning runs in walk-off fashion. The Bucs go to 15-3 for the season and 6-0 in conference play.

A big thanks to everyone who made this tournament happen. Trey Walters with the Sideline Marketing Group, Brian Rushing with VoiceCarolinas on the PA, Arty Forsyth and Steve Blalock on the grounds, and all the parents who assisted throughout the week were very instrumental in making this tournament such a success. Great games all week, great weather, and a huge gate. The Joe Martin ALS Foundation will be very happy to see the donation from the tourney!

Ardrey Kell and South Meck, 3-0, Unofficial Co-Champs, only undefeated teams in the tourney.

    Logan Ratledge, Homerun Derby Champ.

Tyler Powell, Tournament MVP. 7-9, HR, 9RBI, CG one-hit win.
