Charlotte Country Day 2....Charlotte Christian 0

    CCH....000 000 0.....0..4..0
    CCDS…010 100 x.....2..6..1

    Pitching:

    CCDS William Frazier 6.1 IP, 4H, 0R, 0ER, 10K, 3BB...WP (7-0)
    CCDS Lee Harrison .2 IP, 0H, 0R, 0ER, 0K, 0BB
    CCH Devland Zakar 4.2 IP, 6H, 2R, 2ER, 6K, 6BB... LP
    CCH Hunter Payne 1.1 IP, 0H, 0R, 0ER, 2K, 0BB

    Hitting:

    CCDS Patrick Langdon 2-2, double
    CCDS William Frazier 1-3, double
    CCDS Brian Duncan 1-2, RBI
    CCH Brett Milliman 1-3, double
    CCH Tyler Simmons 1-1

In the first game of a three-game series between the top two private school teams in Charlotte, the Bucs prevailed 2-0. William Frazier tossed a gem and after giving up two hits to start the game settled in and cruised by keeping the talented Christian lineup off balance by mixing three pitches effectively and spotting his sharp-breaking curveball. Frazier struck out 10 batters and after giving up those lead off hits to Christian's hot-hitting tandem of Griffin Gum and Tyler Simmons, he was able to keep them from inflicting anymore damage. Frazier further minimized Christian's offensive production with two pick offs at timely moments. Patrick Langdon continued to demonstrate why he is one of the best hitters in Charlotte by driving the ball hard twice, once for a double and by working a walk from an 0-2 hole. Langdon scored both Buccaneer runs. Devland Zakar pitched well for the Knights and flashed a very zippy fastball...he also got out of back-to-back bases loaded jams in the 3rd and 4th innings. Things got a little tight in the top of the 7th as Christian got two runners on after the first batter was retired. Lee Harrison was summoned to quell the rally and on his second pitch he induced a ground ball up the middle that second baseman Sam Poole turned into a nice game-ending double play that was bang bang at first. Bucs fans and players celebrated a hard-fought victory in a very well played game. The Bucs go to 16-3 and 7-0 in conference play. Christian's record is 17-8 and 7-1 in conference play. Game two of the series is Friday night at Christian at 7:00.

    West Meck 6 Butler 5

Butler loses 6-5 at West Meck in non-conference game. Butler pitchers AJ Larson and Malachi Haynes toe the rubber for the first time this season to get innings for conference playoffs. Chase Gehringer hits his 3rd HR of the season, a 2 run shot in the second to get Butler to a 3-0 lead. WM plated 5 in the second and scored the go ahead run in the 6th to win it. Butler plays South Meck tonight (senior night) in must win game for the Bulldogs.

he definitely is a hard-nosed player who plays the game the right way. his old man taught him well.

we really had no business being in this tournament having 13 players, 9 of which are freshman and sophmores. we played hard and had fun though. great experience for the young pups.

    SW4A Can be Decided Tonight

Tonight’s games will go a long way in setting the final standings for the SW4A.

Providence can wrap up at least a share of the title, their third consecutive, with a win over East Meck on senior night at Dave Jones Field. The Eagles, fresh off their upset of Ardrey Kell and winners of five of their last six, can wrap up a play-off berth with a win. Mike Herbert is the scheduled starter for the Panthers while the Eagle starter is TBA. Southwestern4Abaseball.com will webcast the game at www.tbrpreps.com.

Independence will tangle with Myers Park in an elimination match. Matt Keeter is scheduled for the Greenies while Carson Plyler should be on the bump for Indy. The loser will need to win the SW4A tournament to qualify for the state playoffs while the victor will be holding on by a thread, hoping that either South Meck or East Meck will drop their final two games to allow them to tie for the final playoff spot and look to the conference tournament to decided it. South and East play each other in the last game of the regular season so if both lose tonight it is set up for the winner of the MP/Indy game to come from behind and steal a berth.

Butler can wrap up third with a win over South Meck. The Bulldogs will have their ace Brandon McWhirter ready while South’s Earl Oliver is scheduled to take the ball. A Sabre victory would bring South even with the Bulldogs and also give them the tie breaker over Butler heading into Monday’s finales.

Ardrey Kell, stinging from Tuesday’s loss to East, are Eagle fans tonight. An East win should give the Knights a chance to capture the title outright on Monday at Providence. AK host winless Rocky River.

CCDS Lee Harrison 1-4, double, RBI
    CCH Colin Kellemeyer 1-1, double
    CCH Matt Simmons 1-4, double
    CCH Eddie Thompson 1-4, double

In the second game of a three-game series between the top two private school teams in Charlotte, the Bucs again prevailed, this time by a score of 8-4. The visiting Bucs started fast with back to back home runs highlighting a three run first inning as Tyler Holloway and Colin Walls both carried high drives out of the ballpark. Holloway had a very gutty performance on the mound in a challenging competitive environment and battled through some adversity in the second inning after issuing a few free passes. He settled down and worked effectively into the sixth inning. The pitch count was climbing and Keisuke Ishekawa took the mound to close things out. He looked in control of matters and ended the game with two threatening runners on base with a game-ending strikeout looking. William Frazier (3-4) and Patrick Langdon (RBI triple, 2-4) stayed hot at the plate and the Bucs continued to have a balanced attack offensively. The Bucs go to 17-3 and 8-0 in conference play. Christian's record is 17-9 and 6-2 in conference play. Game three of the series is Saturday afternoon at 2:00 at Ed Walton Field on the campus of Charlotte Country Day.
