We wrote at the beginning of the year how Marvin Ridge and Weddington had very tough schedules and that although their records will not be great they will still finish #1 and #2 in the conference. Every time these teams play other teams out of conference they face a #1 or #2 pitcher....if their opponents do not throw their best they will not win. I have had the privledge of coaching at both Weddington and Marvin Ridge and I can tell you that the talent between these two schools is basically a wash. Every time these two schools get together the team that makes the least amount of mistakes usually wins....one team really isn't that much better than the other. This will most likely be the case tomorrow when they play for the #1 seed in the playoff's @ 4:30.

These teams are and should be looked at in the same light as Providence, AK, South, Butler, Christian, Country Day, Myers Park and any other South Charlotte school. The coaches apparently know this and it is shown by the quality of pitching that they see each and every out of conference game they play.

I guess when you play AK, Providence, Myers Park, Christian, Cuthbertson, Butler, Piedmont, and Hickory Ridge (not to mention the East Meck Easter Tourney) you probably aren't going to tear the cover off the ball....but then again not many teams are going to.

    What a Brilliant Statement

It is quit clear this is either another High School Player or someone who does not really follow Weddington Baseball very much. Last I looked W had a winning record this year against some of the best Teams not only in the area but, in the State. If I am not mistaken, Weddington is Co-Champs with Marvin Ridge in the SCC both with a 8-2 record. Correct me if I am wrong, Good Pitching & Good Defense will beat Good Hitting most of the time. I believe Weddington has faired pretty well with-out Schellhorn most of the year and Spivey since Easter as other players have stepped up their play.
I also know this, the W players are not at all satisfied with what they have accomplished this year so far. They also know that a lot of Hard Work will be needed from ALL to continue on in States and moving forward.

My Congrats goes to Coach Poole for scheduling such tuff Teams. For his players facing some of the Best Pitchers in the State day in and day out will only make his players better in the long run.

Oh by the way, can't wait until next year when High Scool has to use the BBCOR Bats. The True Hitters will Shine...........

    Marvin Ridge 4 Weddington 2

Marvin Ridge gets the win and a #1 seed out of the SCC. It was a close game throughout....Marvin Ridge scratched out 2 in the first but a couple innings later Alex Morales tied the score with a 2 run blast to right. Each team held its own until Hunter Heirs hit a 2 run shot of his own to left center in the bottom of the sixth. Brian Peart picked up the complete game victory. Marvin Ridge will play Cox Mill in the first round of the playoff and Weddington will take on Hickory Ridge.

    Game Time????

Is the Hickory Ridge at Weddington game still Friday at 7:00?? See where some games are being played today because of Friday's weather, proms, or wanting number 1 pitcher to pitch 2nd game too. Extra day's rest.
