Playoff scenarios heading into final 2 conference games:

Wakefield (10-2)....can clinch #1 seed with win over Broughton today

Leesville (9-3)....clinched playoff spot...seeding still to be determined...lost twice to Wakefield and beat Broughton twice

Broughton (9-3)....clinched playoff spot....seeding still to be determined...a win today over Wakefield could shake things up considerably in regards to seeding.

Wake Forest-Rolesville (7-5).... should have clinched playoff spot with last night's win over Enloe...probably the 4 or 5 seed....a win today over Millbrook would secure 4 seed.

Millbrook (6-6)...can clinch playoff spot with win today over WFR or Enloe on Monday as they hold the tiebreaker with Sanderson.

Sanderson (5-7)....needs wins over Enloe today and Broughton on Monday plus Millbrook to lose their last two to slip into the 5th playoff spot. Two wins would give the Spartans an overall record of 11-9-2 with a shot at the wild card spot if Millbrook clinches the 5th spot....a split and a 10-10-2 overall may still keep them in the hunt. Key game outside of the Cap 8 could be tonight's game between New Bern and Laney. The winner of that game receives their league's final playoff spot. New Bern shows an overall record of 9-7 entering that game while Laney was 7-13. A Laney win would force New Bern into the wild card race. It is so difficult to find complete records for teams, it is difficult to say how many other teams have the opportunity finish the season at .500 or better overall and miss out on a playoff spot in their conference, thus forcing them to battle for the one wild card slot in the 4A East bracket.

Looks like a tough last two weeks to the season while fighting for a playoff spot. If they are out (looks they are) hopefully this young team can take what they learned this year, work on their continual development over the summer and fall, and come back in 2012 ready to make a serious run.

The off season is where you win the regular season! Lets see the Spartans put in the necessary offseason effort and they will reap their just rewards next season.

Lets send out our senior's with a solid TEAM effort on Monday night vs Broughton.

The last two weeks have been tough on the Spartans and it showed in the game on Friday. I was hoping the win over Cardinal Gibbons on Wednesday would provide a little spark, but no such luck. Hopefully the boys will dig deep and find the spark to send the seniors out on a winning note over Broughton tonight.

Here is how the seeding will shake out for the Cap 8:

    #1 - Wakefield (11-2, has tiebreaker head-to-head with Leesville)
#2 - Leesville Rd (10-3, has tiebreaker head-to-head with Broughton)
    #3 - Broughton (9-4, has tiebreaker head-to-head with WFR)
    #4 - Wake Forest-Rolesville (8-5)
#5 - Millbrook (6-7, has tiebreaker over Sanderson with win over Wakefield)

Remaining standings entering tonight's final games:

    #6 - Sanderson (5-8)
    #7 - Enloe (2-11)
    #8 - Heritage (1-12)

    Leesville & Wakefield Games

Leesville was up 5-1 over Lumberton in B1 with 2 outs and 2 on the corners, I believe, with the 9th batter at the plate when the skies opened up. Lumberton led off the game with a single, runner moved up to 2B on a passed ball, then a single to the OF drove in the run. Austin Berrios was able to get the next 2 outs preventing more damage. In the bottom of the 1st Berrios got the scoring going with a solo HR to deep center into the trees then several hits later 4 more runs were plated. Leesville-Lumberton will resume Sat 1 PM. Long bus rides for Lumberton.

The Wakefield game was delayed with the score Wakefield up 2-1 and inning unknown. Ravi Patel was pitching for Wakefield and Dylan Dickens for Person. Game was finally called for good around 9:30 PM, and will resume Sat 3 PM.

Thanks for the updates. I hope they can get them in tomorrow. Based on the forecast, Leesville-Lumberton may have a chance. I'm not quite sure why Wakefield-Person isn't resuming until 3pm....right when the foecast is the worst....doesn't make much sense to me....oh well.

    Results 5/14:

Leesville over Lumberton 5-3. The Pride advance to the 2nd round and travel to Durham Jordan on 5/17.
Wakefield over Person 4-3....game was called after 6 innings due to rain. Person had two men on with no outs in the top of the 7th when the floods came, so game reverted back to last completed inning.
