Probadly won't be a cakewalk for South Point, but they've got to be the favorites in the lower bracket. They're 20-2 and have 2 pretty good pitchers (Jeffrey Springs & Logan Walden) they get to rotate from game to game in the one & done portion of the playoffs.

Their ace is Jeffrey Springs & he pitched Friday night against East Henderson. He threw the entire game, and had 16 K's, and gave up 1 hit. (a homer). Springs has committed to Appalachian State.

So, who are the favorites in the 3A west upper bracket? This looks to be a crap shoot with some dark horses playing well.

First of all, let me say South Point should be the favorite in the 3A West Lower Brackett, anyone else and its an upset, which is why they play the games.

As for the 3A West Upper,,,, I'd pick both East Rowan and NW Cabarrus to advance on Tuesday setting up their 3rd meeting of the year in 3rd round. Marvin Ridge/JM Robinson should be a great game for the fans and should be close,,, but the best game of this bracket in 2nd round is Charlotte Catholic/Carson.

If your asking about "darkhorses" to win this bracket, I'd say any of the bottom 4 can legitimately win their way to the state finals,,, but ER and NW has to be the favorites on paper (but one of these 2 is going home this week).

    Carson High School

What is the deal with Jesse C. Carson High? I know in the past they have had a great offense 1-9. What else do they have this year?

Carson's 1-0 win over Mt.Pleasant in 1st round was HUGE. Carson is simply well-coached, they play the game right and they still have very good talent. Are they the most talented team left of the remaining teams? Probably not.

But they have very good ballplayers and their beating MP was no surprise to those who follow them. If they got on a roll and won the next 3-4 games, that would not surprise me at all.

This is all good stuff! The x-factor could be the forecasted rain coming for the second round games. This could really help or hurt in pitching rotations in key match-ups. Like the old saying goes, sometimes its better to be lucky than good!
