Mallard Creek travels to Asheville to take on TC Roberson Friday night. Does anyone know enough about both teams to breakdown this game? Strengths, weaknesses, level of regular season competition, predictions?....:08:
    How about you, pirates5??

    Thanks,

Mooresville has played both teams and has a 0 in the win column to show for it. Mallard Creek has much better speed, hands down. That can help both offensively and defensively. Their fied is very small, 345 to the power alleys, that will negate some of MC's speed advantage. If Boles pitches like he did in the conf champioship it will be a great game. The 2 games of Roberson's that I am aware of, they rotated pitching often and all their pitchers seem to have definite different styles that will cause hitters to adjust on the fly.
Pitching will be the key. I like MC's chances in this one. Would love to see the game, but one trip to Aville is enough for 1 week.

    My prediction:

    Mallard Creek 7
    TC Roberson: 4

I agree with DirtyMo on the size of the field negating some speed. However, Mallard Creek is an extremely patient team, drives the gaps, and generates walks. With Mallard Creek's speed every walk is a double and with TC Roberson's field every would-be gap to gap double is a line drive that, on this field, clears the power alleys with ease.

I will say that it is very tough for a road team to go there and win. Short field, rowdy fans, solid team. TC will do what it takes to win and very saavy as well. Should be a great game.

Pardon my southern slang but ye' ain't kidding 'bout the rowdy fans. Boy, those guys get serious in the stands over there. I caught all kinds of..uh...stuff...all game long. It's like they're playing with 10 guys out there if you don't stay focused!

    TC Roberson

Roberson is good. Very good. If you underestimate them you will be coming home with a LOSS. Regional finalist last year with only a couple guys missing from last year. Class coach with classy players. 325 down the lines, I walked it off, and only 335 in alleys. Doubles are HRS there. Don't sleep on the catcher. UNC-A signee with a GUN! If you plan on stealing you better get it on the pitcher. He's 1.7-1.8. All pitchers can bring it and yes they change pitchers every 2-3 innings regardless what the situation is. Batters will not see the same pitcher more than 2 ABs. Didn't even throw the lefty (2012) and he has committed to Notre Dame. Hitters all the way down the line-up. Power in the top 5. Speed throughout. Defensively very solid. Will not beat themselves, very well coached. Power is more important than speed on their field as fences keep alot of doubles to singles. No way a triple is happening as there is not enough room in the field. Good luck to Mallard Creek as they will need to play very well and have some breaks to beat these guys on their home field.

A few corrections on the last post. First baseman is the UNCA signee who does catch occassionally but the catcher is a soph with a gun and your times were correct. Two pitchers have signed with UNCG and the left fielder is commited to Notre Dame but is a junior. These guys have won two games by creating runs and they can do that but their game is swinging the bat. I know it is a small park but most of the hrs would have been out anywhere. Should be interesting, can't wait for tonight and the crowd is electric but not hostile toward the other team, just a great atmosphere and great place to watch a game.

He may have a gun but there is no chance he is throwing 1.7s and probably not 1.8s.

Don't question info if you haven't seen the kid yourself. We played them. I timed him several times. Other teams scouting them did also. Same results from everyone with a stopwatch. Non-believer?? Go check the kid out yourself! Also closed our game and was pushing high 80's to 90 on the mound.
