What are the rules regarding a volunteer dad coach in regards to recruiting players and what can be done about it?

In a haste and bit of anger I originally left out a few details. This is a High School situation and this dad/coach is recruiting players from one high school to another. I looked at the nchsaa.org site and unless I over looked it, could not find any material pertaining to this subject.

    Here is a volunteer coach's do's and don't's: https://www.msu.edu/~msuncaa/Volunteer Coach Resource.pdf

It doesn't distinguish a volunteer between a dad or another type coach. It appears you believe you have witnessed a violation. You would have to be specific about the offense before anybody can respond to a violation. The school's compliance officer is where one would take their concerns.

All volunteer coaches must pass a NCAA certification to be eligible.

As a coach who has benefitted from transfers over the years (even before becoming a head coach) - though having NEVER recruited a single one - I wish it would all stop.

If they would require kids to "sit" one full year of eligibility, then it would cease.

Just got a call today about a kid who "is coming" (FROM HIS FORMER COACH, NOT THE SELLING PARENT). The kid walked off the former coach's field cussing a couple of weeks ago, and now he wants to come to my "greener pastures". His dad was already walking through my parents a couple of weeks ago saying he would be coming. What the???

Now, I know this isn't what you asked, but it all comes back to one key word from your post - DAD. Don't get me wrong, I love mine and I try to be a good one myself - God knows we need more dads, not less! However, we just don't need so many of them trying to manipulate or live through their children's athletic careers! (<-Really... he has a career at 14?!)

This is a touchy subject. Transferring has always been part of any landscape. Teachers transfer all the time, for a percieved better situation. Non athletic students ( Band, Art, Academics) transfer to different schools and nothing is said. It is and always will be a family choice and who are we to say what is right, wrong or whatever for your family. If a person do transfer and it is done by the rules, more power to them. Just remember the grass isn't always greener on the other side, but again that is something the family have to deal with.
