Are there no defenders of using only ....

one pitcher? If one looks at the pitching records of the teams that were at the creek it clearly is a winning strategy. Winning is what it's all about, right?

Some of those teams would not even have been at the Creek without the pitchers they used. Even regular season games are important, other than non-conference, etc.

I agree that the more pitchers the better for the pitchers and the teams. Most teams have backup plans I'm sure but would probably only use them in an emergency. After all, during playoffs, it's one and done. Although I've heard that changes next year.

Why does Al Bundy come to mind?

I think about all these girls being forced to give everything for High School ball, just do one day sit back and talk about how great they were??? There are bigger things now than High School sports.

Being forced? The ones that stand out in my mind are not being forced.

What are some of the bigger things? What do you mean?

well the coach is using them as the lone pitcher.....maybe not being forced but they don't have many options....

As for other things- well i mean college ball- after that it is pretty much over, but a good college career can put you on the track to possibly coaching or get you in to other areas of the game.....Nobody cares what you did in high school anymore. Lets face it, softball for most of these girls is played because they love it, it won't become a profession for 99% of them.

OK, I see what you mean.

Many times there is only one pitcher on a HS team.

I also believe most kids are in it for the moment. The thrill of now, not next year.

Some things that really help make it all worthwhile is when a team that is given no chance comes through and ends up at the championship weekend tournament, like Walnut Creek. That's what Clayton HS did this year! With one pitcher. They didn't do that for when they get old, they did that for this year, but they'll remember it for quite awhile.

For that team and others like it, it is worth it! It really means something now—in and of itself!
