Given the choice I will go to the regulation tournaments every time. They are worth any time inconvenience. If they aren't overbooked they can be quality tournaments.

Time limits and all that goes with it are degrading the sport. Keep the time limits to the showcases.

Time limits have been a part of fastpitch tournaments for at least 12 or more years so how can it be degrading the sport all of a sudden? This is not something new. I think you are confusing showcase dropdead time limits with normal tournament time limits. How many games would get played in a day(Im guessing 2 each team) and how many days would a tournament last if there were no time limits? The next thing that everyone would be complaining about is all the hotel costs and missing work for a 3 day tournament that now turns into a 5 day tournament.

Whats overbooked? 8 teams? 16? Do you wanna pay $800 for a single tournament?

No one said all of a sudden. It is gradually getting worse; more showcases, more choreography, other things that dilute real competition. The showcase mentality bled over into the tournaments. Most tournaments now have time limits, drop dead at bats, other garbage.

Tournaments used to be played with no time limits. We played either 6 or 7 games one Sunday at Walnut Creek for a State Games championship after falling into the loser's bracket. And it didn't cost $800.

That's part of the problem, the games have become too commercialized. More and more, it's not about the kids, it's about the money.

Maybe the good old days are gone for good! Unless organizations like the PGF become more popular!

I just dont know what "good ole days" you are referring to. We played tournaments back in 2000 that were all time limits. NSA world series, ASA, Pony... all of them had time limits. Usually, 1:30 or maybe sometimes 1:45, but they all had time limits.. You could never keep a schedule for a short weekend.

You played 6 or 7, 7 inning games with no time limits in one day? Thats 14 hours of nonstop softball... you sure about that?

Frankly, I dont like the drop dead either but I have only seen that in showcase. You are saying that is now what they called timed games in non-showcase?

    Great Job!

Congratulations to the Lady Lightning organization in securing the 2 berths to the PGF Championships in California! Impressive list of college coaches that will be attending that event according to their website. Your hard work and dedication has paid off. Time to take it to the next level!

Games have gradually shortened from 1:30/1:45 to 1:15/1:20 what next hour games? 1:15 is not enough time to decide who the best team is especially if the umpire won't move the game along. Times are shortening and prices are going up. I have a hard time determining what a showcase is. If one coach from xyz college shows up the tournament director says it is a showcase so he can charge you $500 to play games that last an hour and fifteen minutes.
