So your saying the Cherryville broadcasters said Benfield isn't that good but the umpires made him look good because Pineville chose not to adjust...I get it now.

And with that I'm ready to move on and everyone else should as well.Bad calls or not.It is what it is . Good luck to other teams remaining in the playoffs. It was alt of fun for me to go to volunteering for the Pineville 337 at Jack Hughes park running the scoreboard and doing some announcing and best of all seeing good baseball played by both teams day in and day out

The fact is that the umpire may have had a wide strike zone, but he didn't have it only when Pineville was at bat. The Pineville pitchers had every opportunity to adjust and take advantage of the wide strike zone. They either COULD NOT or WOULD NOT, I'm not sure which.

Another fact is that Pineville's coach acted like a complete moron last night and his players followed suit. From what I'm hearing, and that's not just from the Cherryville faithful, the ball was clearly foul. I know it takes a great coach to guide his team to a remarkable 7 win season, but it seems like the umpire got that one right.

the people who have played there already know what happens there.
the people from cherryville love what happens there.
    everybody else don't care.

Moose...I know you could put a squad together and go into BDR's place and beat him. Winning starts between your ears. If your team believes they are going to lose everytime they go to Cherryville than the battle is half lost before you throw a pitch. I've seen you coach...I know you could do it. I'll get two of the best partners I can find and you arrange the game and I promise you won't have to worry one bit about the umpires.

    A few thoughts:

    - I am impressed that TBR has gone country-wide. For info to travel to Wisconsin is amazing!!!!:laugh2:

    - I assume one of the umpires was KB, who is absolutely not from Cherryville, and would never be intimidated by anyone. He may or may not have blown a call, but he certainly is not incompetent: He's one of the best you will find at any level and you will find most players love when he is on the field.

    - Complaining about strike zones is hilarious to me. It's either the SZ is too wide or too tight. But either way the players batting approach should adjust--if they don't, good luck at the next level. They need to be up there WANTING to hit, not waiting for the perfect strike down the middle. You won't see that very often in college. If you have two strikes, you better learn not to leave it to the umpires judgement, if the next pitch is a strike or not. I hear parents cry, "but it's a foot outside!" Guess what? If you noticed that, shame on the batter that didn't. Adjust...move up. The best hitters adjust after every pitch, they don't wait thinking the umpire will adjust to the batter's idea. My problem is with the umpire that is fair up to 2 strikes and then changes because he doesn't have the cajones to ring a batter up.

    - The last thing I want to mention is about the Coach at Pineville. Not many know what position he was in. He had to takeover midway through the season with a club that was demoralized. A lot of players left during the season and I believe he and his staff did an amazing job keeping this team intact and focused. Kudo's to Coach Youtsey and his staff! It was a very difficult season, yet his team battled for him.

I agree...I have known the coach for many years and he genuinely cares for the players and their well-being, both now and in the future. When I encounter him around a ballpark he always asks about my son and I can tell that he has a genuine interest in hearing the answer....great baseball man that loves the game.
