    RE: Huntersville v. Hickory

First of all, I do have a dog in the fight, but I have to say with all of the talk of the Huntersville coach, I was most appalled at the attitudes and bad sportsmanship of the players who were present. From the time Hickory arrived to play the first game, this was very evident as the players mocked the legion code of conduct and spit and talked during the National Anthem. They laughed and mocked the Hickory players as the took their first infield and continued this behavior until the last inning of the series. Two Huntersville players were ejected but many more should have been. Yes, the coach allowed it, but the players are old enough to know right from wrong.
No excuses needed either...Hickory beat Huntersville soundly, and I believe would have done so even with the 3 additional players.
One added note...Hickory does not just have average players...2 mlb draftees, at least 5 D-I signees or current players, and most all are either currently playing college ball or have signed to play somewhere. Plus, the entire coaching staff and all the players have class as well as heart. Good luck to Post 48 in the next round!

Cherryville wins game three against Union County 15-3 I think that was the score. Game 4 tonight at Wingate University.

    An Apology

Bsbllfn, I made a comment about average players but in no way was referring to Hickory. I apologize if it was taken that way. I was commenting on a previous post that has since been removed. It was meant as a generalization that just because a team is viewed as "stacked" (either by the team or others) does not mean that they are unbeatable. There is more to being a winning team than sheer talent of the players. Again, I apologize if I offended you. It is obvious that Hickory is an extremely strong team and they deserved to win. Congratulations.

I also want to say that I am saddened by the disrespect that was shown by the Huntersville team.

Although Huntersville was missing some key players for this series, Hickory flat out hit the hell out of the ball and their coaching staff out coached ours. They are a very good team and has just as good of chance of advancing next round as the next team. As far as one of the statements about the players are old enough to know how to act, i am a firm believer that teams take on the personality of their coach after a certain amount of time. Some of the behavior was uncalled for and should have been addressed. It is unfortunate that a great season came to an end so soon. Congrats to Hickory, they came out and gave us a good old fashion ass whipping for three games. Good luck to all the teams left in area 4.Their are some very good teams still playing so it should be very interesting.

    Huntersville v. Hickory

Thank you to those parents and fans who are apologizing for the coach and players' bad behavior. I have to say Hickory was very surprised at the attitudes. Pirates05, my son has played against yours since childhood and you and your son have always been class acts.I know he wasn't in attendance at our series. Best of luck to him at USC.To the rest of Post 321, I hope you find a new coach who will lead your players respectfully.

    Huntersville Area Baseball

I just wanted to say that many of the Huntersville area boys are very close and have played together or against each other since they were young boys. They have given so much enjoyment to our community. I know everyone has enjoyed celebrating their successes, but not every day can be perfect. Hickory is a great team, our team lost. That's it. Let's not express such negativity, point fingers, and throw coaches under the bus on-line in a public forum. It disappoints me, and just makes Huntersville appear unattractive.

These boys all have remarkable accomplishments, on the field, in the commumity and in the classroom. As they all go their seperate ways, I will miss seeing them play together dearly, but know that each of them have many exciting opportunities ahead. That is what we should be celebrating and discussing, and I wish each and every one of them the very best. I am proud of them all.

W2 Caldwell vs E3 Mint Hill Army

Series is tied at 2-2 with game 5 tonight in Granite Falls after Mint Hill wins rain-shortened game 4, 7-3. Game 4 was called after 4-1/2 innings and about an hour plus rain delay. This series has been a great one to watch with both teams being very talented. Game 5 will come down to who wants it more with pitching more than likely running thin on both sides.
