    The Foothills Heat-Latham played their final tournament this past weekend in Hickory, NC, taking the Championship without a single loss. The Heat has had a great run throughout the years with most all of their players reaching the next level. Barry has quietly and modestly ran a first class organization to the benefit of those of us in the softball community. His players, parents, opponents and college coaches have all benefited from his unselfish and unrelenting efforts. Thanks to Barry, The Foothills Heat-Simmons will now continue the legacy as The Foothills Heat. I have know Barry for many years and have enjoyed calling him coach, but better yet he is my friend. Thank you Foothills Heat-Latham!

    Gosh!

    Thank you guys! I was going to post this picture anyway, and also say that 10 home runs in 4 games on a Sunday is not normal, but it was fun! Savannah Burns hit 5, Morgan Brookshire 3, Bailey Smith and Ashley Rhyne 1 each. All of our players played great and contributed mightily to the cause. I thought the competition was really good, and most of the teams were young. They played tougher than the out of state teams we played in Florence, which says a lot for North Carolina Fast Pitch.

    By the way, I appreciate you guys considering me a friend. Rick, thank you for showing me the ropes, and for all of your efforts in fast pitch. And Steve, it's going to be fun watching you do all the stressing, haha!

    I can't get the pic to upload, maybe later......

    There are a lot of kids and parents who owe a huge thank you to Barry for his dedication (obsession) with their success. There are also those who owe him thanks who don't even realize how instrumental he has been in helping them move forward. The influence he has had with players has been positive and significant. The postive impact is yet to be fully recognized for the long term.

    Retire....
    Quit.....
    Last tournament......
    Ha....

    Tell me in April!!:shiny::shiny::shiny:

    Thanks again and again!!!!!

    Thanks Coach

    It has been fun battling your teams the last couple of years. It seems as though we have played a lot of 1-0 games. I have tried getting a way from this for a while too, but this great game always draws you back. Enjoy yourself. T.Waugh/Cobras

    retirement-say it ain't so!

    We've known Barry for years and don't know anyone that knows more or works harder to promote the game and the girls. He started his team from scratch on a shoestring budget and now years (and many yard sales) later, is ready to sit back and watch his girls play at the next level. Congrats and many thanks to a guy that always coached with class. Of course, he knows we are hoping it's only a (short) vacation, not retirement! Mini-me is waiting!!! :victoryg:

    Congratulations Barry on going out a big winner (which you deserved) but you will be missed. I can't tell you how much I have enjoyed our conversations over the past two years and I appreciate your friendship. You never coached my daughter on the field but she has always looked for you at tournaments and your words of encouragement to her have been invaluable. Thanks for everything and I look forward to seeing you around the field.
