I'll give it a shot from the Charlotte area:

    Public schools:
Providence and Ardrey Kell seem to be head-and-shoulders above the rest, although Hough is looking pretty good as well and may give them a run for their money. Providence and AK have two conference matchups that should be some great volleyball.

    Privates:
Charlotte Latin seems to be the dominant team again. Southlake Christian is also very good and has not lost yet this year. Charlotte Christian got a nice tournament win in Raleigh this past weekend, and they are a solid team even though I don't believe they have a single senior on their roster.

Why? It's the players, of course. Most of these teams are heavy with club players, especially from the two major clubs in Charlotte - Carolina Union Volleyball Club (CUVC) and Carolina Juniors (CJV). These clubs have been producing some great players and many that have gone on to play in college. Charlotte volleyball is on the up-swing. And of course many of the coaches of these HS teams are also club coaches that are involved nearly year-round.

By the way, if you want to catch most of the teams in action, you can see most of them on one day, Sept 24th, at Charlotte Latin, in the Serve for the Cure tournament. That tournament always features some great volleyball. Come on out for a day of volleyball!

Also take note that Cardinal Gibbons out of the Raleigh area, ranked sixth in the nation per MaxPreps, is out in California at a tournament this weekend playing against some heavyweights. Cardinal Gibbons features several players from the Triangle club in Raleigh, which is the dominant club in North Carolina right now.

    Hough @ LKN Thurs.

Lake Norman will be hosting Hough this Thurs with J.V. starting at 4:30 and the varsity immediately following. Both teams are undefeated in I-MECK Conf. play. Hope to see a great match-up.

That Lake Norman - Hough match should be a good one. I haven't seen Lake Norman this year, so I can't comment too much, but 2 undefeated-in-the-conference teams makes it an important match.

One team I forgot to mention is Charlotte Catholic, a private school that plays in a public school conference. Their only losses this year are to Providence, Ardrey Kell, and Charlotte Latin, and they took Latin to a fifth game. They have a nice victory over Nations Ford from Fort Mill, a 2010 SC state champion.

North Iredell is 10-0 with wins over 2010 2A State Champ Starmount(3-2), Lake Norman(3-0), St. Stephens(3-0) and a talented and a previously unbeaten West Iredell team yesterday(3-0). North Iredell was 3A State Runner Up in 2010 losing to Cardinal Gibbons(3-1). This 2011 team should make some noise come playoff time.

Hough pulls the Jekyll and Hyde trick, losing in a sweep 3-0 to Lake Norman, then defeating Providence 3-2 on Saturday.

Top teams, which would definitely include Lake Norman, seem to be knocking each other off. Should be an interesting rest of the season for the Charlotte area teams. Providence and Ardrey Kell play Tuesday at Providence.

    Lake Norman

Lake Norman plays host to Mooresville on Tues and travels to N. Meck on Thurs... If LKN can get by Mooresville, they will finish the first half of I-Meck Conf. play in sole possession of !st Place.
LKN has improved every week under new Head Coach Ramsey and could make some noise late in the season if the improvements continue.
Good luck Lady Wildcats this week !

    Lake Norman

Lake Norman continues hot streak beating cross town rival Mooresville 3-0, closing out the first half of conference play in sole possession of 1st place with Hough only 1 game back. Hough coming off a strong win against power house Providence. Should make for an interesting match when LKN / Hough meet later in Oct.

Lake Norman, North Iredell and West Iredell continue to play well. Iredell County volleyball is having another outstanding season. Good luck to each of these teams for the rest of the season and the playoffs. There are many other great programs (Starmount, Charlotte Catholic among many others) in the area, so if you've never been to a volleyball game. Give it a try, its worth the price of a ticket.
