South Charlotte Panthers making a strong showing in the best and largest underclasssmen tournament. Both the SC Panthers 2013 and SC Panthers 2014 made the final 16 with the 2013's making the final 8 with their next game Monday at 9am. Great job Don and the boys!

SC Panthers have 2013 great showing in Ft Myers

Congrats to the SC Panthers 2013 team finishing in the final 8 at the World Woodbat underclass championships in Ft Myers Fl. against the top teams in the nation. It is impressive to only allow 5 runs the whole tournament. Also congrats to the 2014 panthers making it to the round of 16.

    SC Panthers

Congratulations to the 2013 and 2014 South Charlotte Panthers teams for their accomplishments in Fort Myers. They are a great group of young men who work hard and are unselfish. They should be proud of the fact that both teams finished in the top 16 and 8 out of 144 teams from around the country. It is quite an accomplishment considering that Team Marrucci (finished first) is made up of players from at least 8-9 different states as were several of the othe teams that were in the final 16. I believe that the Panthers are from the Greater Charlotte Area. It goes to show the type of talent that is located there. I will enjoy following these players in the next several years. Congratulations to Coach Hutchins and Coach Little. Keep up the good work.

Please describe what the 2011 WWBA Underclass was like

I get that you want to congratulate your organizations, parents and players. That's fine. I emailed a friend who coached in it. He said they lost in the final. He was proud of his 14 year old who played up in the event and held his own. I would be.

Can someone please describe their experience at the event? That would be useful.

And also explain the difference between the Ft Meyers FL, WWBA Underclass World Championship and the Jupiter FL WWBA World Championship?

Thanks. (I could ask my friend, but thought others on TBR might benefit. Plus i'd like to hear your thoughts.)

The difference between the two is the Ft Myers event is for underclassmen only no seniors are allowed. The Jupiter event which is the daddy of them all is for Seniors and under.

As regards the experience these are the 2 places you can play where if you perform you are guaranteed to be seen. I watched a game in Jupiter 4 years ago on a Thursday where there were pro and college scouts lined up from the 3rd base all the way around to 1st base with guns raising on every pitch. Probably 50-60 scouts. A truly amazing sight!

There are several factors that determine how much a player and a team will be "seen" at these events...here is a scale (IMO):

5....(guaranteed) - Player is a top notch player on a top notch team
4... (you can count on it) - Player is a top notch player
3... (likely) - player is a good player on a top notch team
3a..(likely) - player is on a team playing against a top notch team
2....(gettin' lucky) - player is on a middle of the pack team playing at the top venue/ballpark for that event
1....(crickets) - Player is on a middle of the pack team playing another middle of the pack team at a satellite field

This scale is one of the reasons it is important to play for the top notch teams. The teams that advance deep into the final games of the tournament are guaranteed to be seen as the games and the scouts consolidate to the premier venue to finish it off. This is where there is the most opportunity for a player to make his mark, and it generally happens in competition between the top notch teams.
