You have to admit. There's no better way to stir up the Charlotte folks than by mentioning that 8 letter word.

No other threads garner the same fervor as those that have the word DIRTBAGS in them.

    Why the heck is that?

First, the issue with how many commits that the dirtbags or the panthers have really is not something to compare each team with when you are talking about juniors in high school in the early fall. I would bet that there are many players from each team that have not committed because they have multiple options / offers to consider. Committing to a 4 year deal is not something you want to rush into. We all know that both programs are going to have mostly every player committed to play college ball by the senior year in high school. Second, the talent is definitely at these two programs along with a very select couple of other teams in the region. The best players are going to go with the best program they can get on that puts them in front of the most scouts by playing the largest and the most known tournaments in the nation. Lastly, if anyone thinks that the owners of these very high end teams do not work extremely hard communicating who they have and where they will be playing and more important than that, answering questions about the player and their abilities to the scouts and college recruiters they are sadly mistaken. I would bet especially in the fall season these head coaches spend a 40 hour week talking on the phone for these players and most of the time without the players knowing!

My hornets nest was not a "between thing" debate - SPC vs. DB, etc.

My point is that (most) all these players are players regardless of showcase affiliation. They are (most?) all probably all-conference in HS, maybe a few all-state. They would be "all-something" no matter where they are.

My thing is not about "making calls". Plenty of HS coaches make calls, send emails, and even produce dvds and send those out - though that never seems to be mentioned in any discussions. It seems folks think that whatever a player gets is because of a showcase coach.

My question: how much development (aka practice) is due to showcase coaching? Not promotion but development.

Now I guess you differing factions (SPC, DB, Canes, etc.) can turn all your collective dukes on me. :boxing_smiley:

[As a "common enemy", I'm glad to help bring the peace! Even if just for 5 minutes.]

My son is on the 2013 team and is one of the eight commits. The Dirtbags provided him with what it took to gain a D1 college coaches attention. He had a great camp at UNC last November and at age 15 he was offered a scholarship after the camp was over. Love them or hate them, they are the best in NC.

    Question on the d1 commits

    Of the 8 DB commits....
    1. How many are multi-sport varsity athletes in HS?
    2. How many stopped playing other sports after JV?
    3. How many stopped playing other sports after middle school?
    4. How many stopped playing other sports after recreational ball ( ie, popwarner, ncyfl, ymca, church, etc)?
    5. Also curious how many played baseball year-round (spring, summer, fall) before HS?
Same questions goes for the SCP commits....

I'm just curious when and if they specialized. Just gathering info. Mine, and several others aproaching HS ask "should i play?" alot regarding other sports, and fall ball. Currently mine isn't, but he's working his butt off 4 x per week preparing. And will play MS basketball again. Opting out of football, although he loves it, because he's seen classmates knee go backward and couldn't stomach missing a baseaball season.

    Set it up

Someone needs to set it up...three game series between Dirtbags and SCP....I'll bring a 3 man crew...I've seen them both play...this would be a great three game series.
