Thanks for the response. This spring/summer season we will prepare the players for showcase tournament which we can typically start entering in the Fall of this year as 14U. They will have the opportuinity at that time to show in front of college coaches and scouts at both tournaments and showcase pro style workouts. We will start by working on the players mechanics and fundamentals showing them what college coaches are looking for in a player and how to acheive it. They will start body assist and muscle memory workouts and learn how to run the 60/30 and increase their times. They will learn how important grades are to a college coache. Although still very young entering these types of events early puts players on coaches radars and gets them the exposure they need to be confident when playing or performming at these events. At 14/15 we will show them how to contact coaches and put together letters and videos to get a coaches attention. At this age players need to know that their efforts contribute to a team but to play further in college requires loads of work, dedication and effort on an individual level. Please feel free to give me a call and I would be happy to answer anymore of your questions.

    1) They still aren't showcasing anything. Sounds like you are calling the team "showcase" just for the sake of doing so.
    2) College coaches really don't have much, if any, interest in 7th and 8th graders.
    3) To put them into showcase tourneys next year (as 14u) is little to no value for the coaches and the players. Very few 15u teams can compete with 16u teams, much less 14u.

    Henry,

I am not a negative person...not at all. I just don't see the need to call a team of 13U kids a showcase team. I tend to agree with Jerry Ford on this. First, it was "AAU" then "travel" then "elite" and now "showcase". (Yeah...this isn't my first rodeo either). Best of luck to you and the Saber Cats. I am not trying to dampen your enthusiasm nor "deface your organization".

I am happy you develop your kids. That was the approach I took years ago and helped (in some small way) my players get to college programs. My first crop of kids are 2012's and 8 of 10 are going to college to play baseball (one other for football, one for lax).

You are barking up the wrong tree, Henry. Good luck to you and the SaberCats. I would LOVE for you to show me how it is done. Especially, since I baseball isn't important here in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia...with players like Michael Cuddyer, Ryan Zimmerman, Justin Upton, BJ Upton, David Wright, etc.

:fan_wave2:Fact: the Carolina SaberCats are an organization made up of several age groups...My son is a Senior this year and has played for Coach Hazzard for several years now. He is committed to these boys in volunteering his time to help them realize their dreams. It is all about the boys. If anyone is interested in getting more info on this awesome program please feel free to call Coach...he is CRAZY about the game and would enjoy answering any questions you may have. thanks
