Rocky Mount's Gabe Brown threw 5.1 innings for NCCU this weekend vs. UNCA. He only allowed 1 run. A 2009 grad., Gabe didn't an opportunity pitch while at RM. He played at LCC and Wake Tech before arriving at Central. Congrats to him!

    Living the dream

This weekend my son realized a dream he has had since about 7th grade, when a coach predicted that he could possibly play Div. 2 baseball someday. He is at Division 1 - UNC Charlotte where he started as a true freshman. 3 games, 3 hits, 3 wins. He summed it up best. Just living a dream.

A little motivation can go a long way.

Hard work beats talent, when talent doesn't work hard... Keep dreamin'

    Good Start---Average Start

Gardner-Webb started season 3-0 against U Maryland Eastern Shore this weekend including a 7-0 shutout on Saturday. Good start.

Son was 2-10 on the weekend, but had quality ab's hitting the ball hard most of the time including and RBI triple and an RBI single and a Stolen Base. (actually had one hit changed to an error on the UMES 3rd baseman 3 innings later?)

Freshman and Butler grad Ryan Hodge also off to good start with 2 RBI including a triple! Ryan started 2 of the 3 games and played in all 3.

Pineville Pioneer player Ryan Allen had a good weekend as well going 3-9 with 2 doubles and 3 rbi.

    Good start boys.

Hard Work and Dedication Pay Off

I'm extremely proud of my son Jacob's first weekend of D1 baseball. WCU swept the series with Fordham. Jacob had a great series batting .583 with 3 singles, 3 doubles, game tying HR in the bottom of the 9th. He also had 6 RBIs, scored 4 runs, walked once and was hit by a pitch.
It’s great to see that all of his hard work and dedication has paid off.

I saw it ...and it was something to behold. Jacob looks so confident in the box and his plate discipline is great. The game tying HR was clutch and impressive, but I was also very impressed with the 8-9 pitch AB that resulted in fouling off several 2-strike pitches and then slapping something slow and away into the opposite field for an RBI single. So nice for a freshman to be #6 overall in the Southern Conference batting stats (#2 in RBI I think) after his first weekend series.

Very nice to see a local Charlotte boy do well in his first outing back from TJ surgery. Jordan Darnell looked strong in his closer role for Elon in their come from behind W against George Mason Saturday. Always tough to toe the rubber for that 1st time when you've rehabbed for a long time!

Hey Braves! Yes..."Riney" (they don't call him that at ECU - they sometimes call him Boobah - don't ask) went yard!!! I was so excited I missed his trot around the field and the celebration at home. I buried my face in my hands and was just stunned. I did have to wrassle with some goon in the jungle to retrieve the ball!! It was his first time leading off in the first game of the season and he swung at the first pitch and over the wall it went in left center!! The Pirates had a great opening weekend and I cannot WAIT to see more Pirate Baseball. Argghhhhh

p.s. If you truly know the fans out East in Pirateland, you know that they would never wrassle a Pirate mama for their son's homerun ball....i was just playin... :)

She made quite a scene out there trying to get her ball back for boobah... they was a rolling around and scuffling in the parking lot like two old coon dogs rasslin over some chittlin leftovers. You'd thought that ball was the winning bingo ball at the local VFW. I heard that old boy took 3 stitches to his ear, where she tried to bite it off. But, she came back with the boobah ball.

Boobahs first homerun came on the first pitch of his first at bat. We need to get him back in the weight room, cause no one scattered when the ball came out there, though.:bdent:
