can a Player be recruited on Hitting alone?

I have a daughter that can play infield pretty well but she has a way's to go and is only an 8th grader.She is a powerful and a technical hitter together
with great speed does this increase her chances of playing in college as a DH or Flex player?I know she has a ton of time to prepare just throwing this out to you Coach D and everyone else.Thanks and we all appericiate you valuable insight on the game of softball.

 

UC I have yet to see an 8th grader who does not have potential to play at the next level yet. The biggest thing she will need to work on IMO is to develop a strong a work ethic as she advances through the advancing level of competition. Many girls loose the desire to compete and advance their game as they get older and this is what seperates the field, those that continue to work will get there if they are consistent with their work and have the desire to do so.

DII Tournament in FL this week

Just arrived back from FL and a DII tournament being held there all month. Given I keep books for these special events and have a knack for statistically analyzing past performances to minimize potential offensive damage. Where I am heading is this:

I saw and my daughter's school played against numerous teams that utilized the DP/Flex combo in which the DP saw 0 field time, and in teams I analyzed. Granted, in all cases these were BIG girls that knock them out of the park without batting an eye, but, just saying, it does happen.

My dd is an example of a kid that got recruited for her hitting. She was recruited to play sb at several ACC and SEC schools to hit. Most schools told her she was too short to play defense at the highest level.Her first choice and most recruited was a large ACC school in Raleigh. She was told it would be almost impossible for her to play first base at 5'4 but they loved her stick. She ended up going to a mid major in ALabama and was a four year starter at first base,played in 3 regionals and 1super regional.
Moral of this story....... If you can hit, they will find a way to get you in the line up.

 

Simple answer: Yes

At last count I've seen over 120 D1 teams play in the last decade. I guarantee that all 120 coaches would have signed C Bustos even if she'd never picked up a fielding glove. So the answer is an emphatic yes.

Note: Bustos never played D1 softball.
