My son played legion ball for 4 years, with last summer being his last year. There were some games where there were as many as 6 pro scouts there and at least 1 at the majority of the games.
There were many college scouts that attended.
If you play for a good legion program you will be seen.

I think some of us began calling it this, back around 2004-2005.

Just kidding of course, but seriously I'm a legion supporter because thats what I grew up with plain and simple. But I also acknowledge the "convenience" for scouts in a showcase setting, where they can see 100 boys on one Saturday. Braves knows that Ive always said a player could do both, legion in the summer (if its available) and showcase in the fall or in select tournaments that you choose. Legion has a dual participation rule but it only goes into affect on a certain date late in the regular season and then of course when your legion team is eliminated from the playoffs, you have the rest of the summer to do as you choose.

TDawg, unfortunately the good legion programs are few and far between. Theres many areas in the state, maybe in your own county, where legion simply isn't an option. And when you add more legion teams, then folk complain about "watering it down", so what do you do?

Again, I think its up to the individual, or at least I should say "I WISH" it were up to the individual. Too many times I believe kids are doing what daddy wants them to do.

Jeff, I wish you the best, you are a good baseball guy, and the game of baseball need more good baseball people,,,,, like anything else when you get too many people who are simply chasing the almighty $$$, then thats not good. Seriously good luck.

I can think of a couple of examples of this, but only a couple.

    Logistic

    Hey Schaef,
Talk about the logistics a little bit.

    Where are league games held?

    How many weekends?

    How do it work?

    Hard to play against Arizona!

So.... is BSDA no longer an entity?

I'm wondering if BSDA is still alive?

(Baseball Skill Development Academy was On Deck's non-profit 5013c organization).

There is division play first. You play everyone in your division.
There is Regional play next. Two divisions getting together to play each other. IE: SC v. GA and NC v. VA
Then national tournament in Jupiter end of July where all 100 teams go.

Some of the reason the play is considered a bit different than true showcase (and much like legion) winning your division matters. The top seeds from each division will ultimately play for the WSL championship. The others, go to Florida for the benefit of being there, being scouted etc, but will not compete for the WSL championship. Very much like the NCAA tournament and the NIT in Basketball.

Local division games are held amongst the teams in a mutually agreeable location and time and typically will be held in a tournament/round robin format.

Regionals are hosted by one of the divisions. IE: One regional being held in Columbia, SC and one in Clemson.

    The national tournament in Jupiter.

PGame. Last I heard the following were in:
    Orlando Scorpions
    Team Georgia
    6-4-3 DP
    The Juice
    Florida Bombers

Wow, those are National teams. By that I mean they recruit Nationally for their players. Most of those teams, ie, Midlands, house their players all summer and if you don't perform you get sent home.

These are the big guys---teams that competed each summer in the Connie Mack events. This is kind of what Perfect Games was wanting to implement. It's funny how our 'lil ol' teams from NC compete against these national teams and in the majority of cases we beat them.

From what I understand the league will only allow 5 teams from each division, so I hope none of our top teams decide to pass.
