Competitive imbalance tonight in North Mecklenburg. I was told the Hough A.D instructed the staff to stop scorekeeping at some point.....I assume they were playing it out in terms of getting outs....including the uncounted runs, Hough tallied 30 runs in a run-rule game as I understand it.

    Still Stupid

Earlier posts about realignment say it all. My comment still stands. There is no other word for it....other than STUPID.

Of course, we are viewing the debacle through baseball eyes...maybe it will be different in football, basketball and track????

Ok, I'm re-thinking this..... Why not group schools by sport by skill level like USSSA or Nationsbaseball? (AA, AAA, Major) or (Select, Elite, Premier). Seems that the size of the school (A,2A,3A,4A) doesn't reflect the skill or ability level of that school and may be out of date.

It's more complicated. But then again. Have you ever tried to buy breakfast cereal lately?

Not as bad as what could have been.

It made better sense to me to leave it alone but what came out of CMS is light years better than the states proposal. If you think back to the original "computer" generated model, it put ALL the so called, predominately black schools together. It also placed ALL the schools that serve the more affluent kids in a group with a private school. (go figure that) It made no sense geographically and the explanation was it "reduced travel time". Why is driving from RR to West Meck a travel time advantage when they drive past 4 schools in another conference just to get there? I can walk to MP from EM faster than you can drive there from a Union County school.
So the reasoning didn't hold water. In my opinion, CMS looked a two things. First you can't have the perception of segregation in the alignment and secondly, it would dramatically hurt the attendance in the revenue generating sports. Even though the gate at HS games is not very good anymore it is still better than nothing.
As I said earlier, I wish it had been left alone but I can live with what is on the table now.

I found out this morning that the Hough A.D. also had the scoreboard turned off during the game after things got out of hand. I was told it was so awkward that the Hough parents felt they couldn't cheer for their players when they got a hit or something else cheer-worthy.

    Comment about Hough parents......

The Hough parents have a lot more class than UNC Chapel Hill fans. The Heels' fans go berserk when one of their players slam dunks the ball when they are leading by 50 points.
My hat is off to the Hough parents. The Hough baseball team looks like they are the class of the IMECK conference this year.

    Ditto

Today, I sat thru my first 40 point middle school game. Ditto. Awkward. No cheering. No laughing. Batted more than twice each inning. No extra bases. Upside: No pressure. 7th graders got to play alot. Celebrated a couple of unanticipated good plays by their players with them.

Organizing CMS middle school conferences by "bell time" brought similar results to the HS game above. But it has also brought 4 better teams to play.

My question is, what kind of coach would leave his starters in for 4 innings in a blow-out game like this?

As I understand it, the coach did everything he could short of telling his players to strike out on purpose. The score would have likely been the same if they had put the JV team out there. When the opponent is unprepared from a skill development standpoint it hard to stop these kind of runaways. When routine fly outs are not caught and routine ground balls are not fielded, the runners advance to home in large numbers. There was no advancing on passed balls or any effort to run up the score. It is difficult for everyone involved...I believe the West Charlotte team displayed competitive courage, but lacks competitive skill.
