Much needed conference win for Independence. Their 2nd this week following their comeback win against Myers Park earlier in the week. Outstanding complete game pitching performance by James Hickes (Soph) pitching 7 full on 82 pitches (61 strikes). Stuck out 6, 0 walks and 5 hits for the win.

    Leading Hitters:

    Indy - Lane Polk 2-4 - PJ Sardinia 1-3, 2 rbi - Nick Salisbury 3-3, 2 rbi
    Butler - Dalton Eisenbath 2-3 HR, 1rbi

The officiating at this game was the worst I have ever seen. Our assistant coach was ejected before the game even began for telling our players "Let's have a great game" and clapping his hands. Can someone please explain to me what the basis could possibly be for his being ejected? Also before the game, one of our players' bat was ruled illegal because it had a dent in it. When our head coach asked the umpire to show him where the dent was, he was told to get out of his face or he would throw him out too. The same umpire was completely out of position and did miss the call at home which would have tied the game. When our head coach questioned the call since the umpire was out of position, he was restricted to the dugout. Parents from both sides were on the umpires. Both teams have filed complaints. As soon as the last out was made, both umpires were gone. They had a police officer accompany them to their cars because they knew both sides were so angry. It was an absolute travesty. This whole mess took away from a beautiful pitching performance by Ryder Ryan. Mallard Creek's only runs were scored on passed balls. He was really on last night. It's a shame it was obscured by the umpires.

I'm not touching this one. Restricted to the dugout gave it away.

I'm not touching this one either. It's simply a case of the umpire thinking that the game is more about him than it is the kids. Period!

gopack49 hit the nail on the head. I was at the game and didn't have a dog in the fight as my son plays for another school in the conference. Home plate ump in particular thought the game was about him instead of the players. NM coach was run before the first pitch was even thrown. Ump was so out of position on the play at the plate that there is no way he could have seen the play....And by the way, the runner had completed his slide into home before the ball even got to the pitcher who was covering on a PB/WP (Can't remember which it was). I guess the pitcher could have been blocking the plate, but it didn't look that way from my perspective. I won't even go into the ever-moving strike zone - Reminiscent of another game I saw on the south side last week.
Regardless, this type of umpiring has been prevalent this season based on the games I have seen thus far, and it is a shame. Games are being taken out of the hands of young men that have worked their tails off to get ready for the season. Hope something comes of the complaints filed in this one...
