Just saw on Baseball Tonight that Madison Bumgarner signed a contract extension for $35 million.....just seems like last week I saw him dueling with David Mailman in the high school playoffs up in Sawmills

May be quite awhile before any NC player graduating in Madison's class and later tops that!

    Wil Myers

    Wil Myers will be next.

I too saw Madison beat Providence with a 96 mph fb. Then a week later he beat a 27-1 Butler team. It's all about pitching. Especially in HS when you only play twice a week. Butler 2007 was the best team I'd seen before this years Providence group. Better than Sawmills everywhere except Sevier in the OF. Oh.... And UNHITTABLE MADISON.

With this silly format the best team doesn't always win. Too many average teams are making the playoffs.

Yep, Wil Myers is a very special player....just think he has a much tougher row to hoe to get to a 5 yr./$35m contract as an outfielder with the Royals. But, hey....he is walking where few ever do, so hats off to him and his promising career.

Still wish my son had thrown him an 0-2 change up in 2009 instead of the bender....:)

    Amazing moment...

In the bottom of the first inning Providence vs. So. Caldwell (2007 State Playoffs), David Mailman drilled Madison Bumgarner with a heavy fastball right on his bicep of his pitching arm (Bumgarner threw lefty but batted righty so his pitching arm was exposed to the mound). It seemed like the Sawmills faithful were going to rush the field, but order was restored. In the top of the next inning, Bumgarner blew away the Providence 4-5-6 hitters on what seemed like 9 straight blazers and then he walked off the mound over toward the Providence dugout with a steely glare before peeling off to the the home team dugout.

It was quite a moment at the time...

I have reoccurring nightmares from that 2007 Butler / SC game, we still don't win in them either. But congrats Madison, you've earned it.

Riding down the road to work a game with Kevin when he got the news. So happy for Kevin as well as Madison.
