    Davie County

If Randall , Foster , Vernon , Garczynski can all get hits in the same game , Davie is as good as anybody at the plate . In there losses ( both 4-3 ) , only one or two of those four players hit . Some of the other players on the team have come up with big hits , but if Davie goes deep in playoffs , those four players MUST come through . Also , in my opinion they are an average defensive team , so Foster and Randell have to do well on the mound .

Like nobody knows they're ranked 10th in the nation! Low key is their mandate.

    Tiger Woods vs. "the Field"

Many golf experts thought Tiger would win the Masters this year after he won at Bay Hill the week before. The expected Tiger vs. the "field" discussion sprung up on ESPN.

When it comes to Providence vs. the field for the 4A state title, I will take the "field"....Providence is loaded, but we all have seen many baseball games decided by the quirky play, an untimely error, an unexpected pitching performance (good and bad), bases loaded double plays, etc.

The "field" offers better odds particularly in the one and done rounds, but Providence is probably the better team.

May be eating my words come late May....

I will take the "field" and go to sleep comfortable and easy....winning 8 games to win the title is a gauntlet in itself not to mention the "lucky" factor that plays a role and all of the other variables you can include like a dominant pitching performance or 14 warning track fly balls that are hit well but caught.....21 outs is a fast game and when you start running out of bullets you start pressing.....:stirthepot:

    I'll take the field too

    I'll take the field too.

First of all, Tiger is a Professional and taking Tiger against the field isn't the deal it was a few years ago.

That being said, I'll take the field.

This isn't Tiger we're talking about. This is a bunch of teenagers! Playing against other teenagers!

I'm with you Tony. I usually am, you just don't always realize it. LOL.

Looks like I am in the minority............

.....but this year, I would take Providence against the field. Might even bet some real money on it; I am sure I could get some good odds from the "field" crew.

Another question about the state playoffs. Do the better umpires get the games? And if so, what is the selection/assignment process? Anybody know or participate in the process?
    Thanks,

    BBL

    Uh, NO.

    Or, at least, define "better"...

yes - associations do evaluations and reward the highest rated umpires with playoff games.

For the first two rounds of state playoffs, umpires are to be assigned by the local booking association of the higher seeded team. After the first two rounds, umpires must come from a neutral association or from association mutually agreed upon. Assignments for regional and state championship games will be made by the NCHSAA office.
