5.18 scholarships, no out-of-state waivers. Enough said. No quality coach takes on this job. I had more scholarships when I was at UNCP!

Funding and efforts seem more like they should be D2, I was recently at South Carolina for a game. I heard how much money they lost a year on softball, but they are making an investment in having a team. Unfortunately the crowd at Porter Ridge for the game against North Davidson last night was larger than most college games get. Porter by the way is a hard place to view a game.

No one makes $$ on softball or

track, baseball, soccer of any other sports not played with a round ball except for basketball and few schools make $$ there. The only schools in America that have athletic programs that make a dime are big-time football schools. All the FCS schools and those that don't play football run their athletic programs on the backs of of the general student body via athletic fees.

    Agree!

Unless we were not told the truth when my DD was being recruited by UNCW in 2004 they have fewer scholarships now than then. Given the financial struggles of the department this may, in fact, be the case. It's going to be very difficult to compete on 5+ schollies. I, know for a fact, JMU is fully funded (12). I suspect the same is true of Delaware, GA State, and Towson since they play football. Hofstra has to be close given the quality of the kids they get there.

Where do you get the info on number of schollies? Don't conferences set their own subrules, sometimes limiting schollies further. I searched and searched but could only find the ncaa rules but no other info on school by school or conference level info. Is this just tribal knowledge?

    Scholarship #'s

You will not find those numbers published anywhere. The UNCW number was the answer I was given to a direct question to the then-coach during a recruiting visit. My daughter is now a division 1 softball coach so I do have some access to what you term 'tribal knowledge'. I also am acquainted with a number of other coaches.
