Congratulations to Weddington on a hard earned state championship. A great group of young men that took advantage of some key opportunities to come out on top this weekend.

To say they would excel in a 4A or 5A state championship series is a little much. Although Bostic did hit a HR that would had been out on any major league field, the team did just have 1 homerun over the two game stretch. If there are going to be ifs and buts, you could say the ball Barbour hit in the 7th off of Pope would have given the Falcons a 6-5 lead on ball that was hit 360 feet deep.
For the pitching, you could say that Bostic threw a no hitter into the 7th, but 8 walks might as well be 8 hits. You have to see that ball to hit the ball, and if its not across the plate then its not an out. It goes to say the same thing about Collins on the mound today. Just because the Falcons did not have as many hits as the Warriors does not mean that the Warriors outplayed the Falcons offensively. I believe the runners left on base speak for themselves.

Be humble and be thoughtful. A few timely base hits off of two division 1 signees could have swung the two games in a totally different direction.

Congratulations to Coach Poole and the Weddington Warriors on a long and deserving season.

Thanks for the congrats. You are correct. Aycock played well and congrats on your season. The timely hits could have made a big difference, but that's the thing, both of those guys have worked out of jambs like that all year, they bow their necks and go after it and have been successful. Getting those timely hits off of those two is just not easy. They both have year long ERA's of under 1.

I don't see sharing the accomplishments of these guys over the weekend as being over the top and not humble. They have a lot to celebrate and deserve the recognition. Recognizing them is in no way a slap to a very tough, well coached and successful Aycock team who came to play as well. Again, congrats on your season. It was a fun atmosphere up at Mudcat Stadium.

Clearly a bitter soul, who lost early.

Ask AK, Providence, and Hough. They all had very tuff ball games and came out on the short side. (Hough was a scrimmage.....but it's a good thing it was, because it wasn't pretty.

    Congratulations to Weddington 3A Champs

I have been very fortunate to have been able to spend a lot of time with most of these boys. Since my son was 7, I have had the pleasure of coaching or coaching against a large percentage of the players. Bayha played on my team at 13. Newton was on my all-star team at 11. Pope pitched his first game for me at 9. Knight played on my sons 8 year old all-star team. Honeycutt has always been picked up before I could get him, but I always had to have a plan for him, because he was always a top level player. My church league basketball team included Bayha, Prillaman, Borelli, Bostic, Pope, and Knight. Collins came to most practices and games and wasn't even on the team.

These boys played together on their middle school team only losing one game.

When you spend that much time with and around someone, you really get to understand who they are. I am honored to have been able to spend that time with them and see them reach this accomplishment. I congratulate the Parents. As good as they are ball players, they are better young men.

    Congratulations on your State Championship.

Congratulations to the Warriors and Coach Poole!

Could see that they were one of the most talented teams in the state regardless of classification from opening day. Glad to see that they took advantage the opportunity to win the title.

Awesome accomplishment Weddington. I am very proud of the whole team. Coach Poole has some great talent and even better young men on this gutty squad. A shout out to Bostic and Schellhorn, whom I coached for a few years on the Matthews Slammers. It is so great to see so many hard working dreams come true. I can't even imagine their senior year next spring. My boy is on the way to college, yet I will have my eye on all my past players scattered all over the Charlotte region. I so love the game.......

    not surprized

As predicted by urs truely.....check the journal....

next prediction...bostick 3-a state player of the year...beast.

should be POY for all divisions. Man-child.

Maybe he should follow Bryce and go ahead and go - he'll never wear purple and orange for klempsun. Headed to the show.

Congrats to Coach Poole and the boyz - fantastic!

Having coached at Weddington for 4 years I am really happy for the boys and Coach Poole. I don't have any direct ties to the players on this team but I was able to coach the older brothers of Honeycutt and Collins while I was there. Although I have been watching them from the opposing dugout the past few years there is no denying that they are a good group of ballplayers and great kids off the field too. They are a very talented bunch and can play with anyone in the state regardless of classification (my last year in 2007 we played for the SW4A tournament title and the JV team went undefeated which included names like Shane Basen, Ty Linton, Tyler Zupcic to name a few) and won a lot of games the couple seasons we played in arguably one of the best 4A conferences in NC. If Marvin Ridge didnt open that next year Coach Poole would have had a D1 signee at almost every position on the field and some sitting on the bench. The idea that they couldnt hang with the top 4A teams should never be in question and if you need further proof make sure you watch their out of conference results in 2013!

Even though I am now coaching at Marvin Ridge and Weddington is our biggest rival I am still proud of those guys and am extremely happy that baseball in Union Co. can finally have something to hang its hat on. I hope more people start to recognize the brand of baseball that is played in UC is done so at a very very high level. Looking forward to another competitive year next season and good luck to all the guys in the offseason.
