    But...

These awards are individual awards, not team honors. It shouldn't matter what a team's record is. If a player is competitive in their stats and their performance, then they should be able to receive the award. There are many teams that struggle but have one or two top notch players on the team. Those individuals cannot carry a team alone. There are other teams that have competitive records and do well because their team "average" of player skills keeps them in the game, but individually they haven't got that many outstanding players. This is a problem when awarding all conference and district. Some argue that the players' team records should be considered, but I would say no. Again- individual awards should be based on individual performance.
As for the awards not meaning anything- we all know politics and other factors have, and will continue to, come into play in many of these award situations. Some schools that should participate do not. So they may in fact lose their value to some. But to others, it is still nice to be recognized.
On a side note, the ncfastpitch website did note that they had the most participation ever this year. That's something. Not perfect, but progress.

    All District

If all the coaches would attend the coaches meeting at the end of the coaches clinic in Greensboro instead of rushing out to the nearest resturant to eat, they would know about the NC Coaches Association website and all they do. I don't know how else they can get the word out there. Bottom line, it's the coaches responsibility to nominate the girls.

No player at my daughter's high school has been nominated for the past 2 years. Last year the coach's excuse was he did not know about the nominations. Reminded him at the first of this year of the nominations and how much it meant to the girls. Now his excuse is...HE FORGOT to nominate. Sad for the girls who work hard and really deserve the recognition.

    Coaches who do not nominate

This matter needs to be taken up with AD and Principal at School. I know when your daughter is still in school it is hard because of the fear of playing time being reduced. However, it has to start somewhere. It is a shame that some Coaches do not care about the athletes!! I doubt very seriously that the Coach forgot. :blahblah1:

I've had a couple of members complain about the way NCSCA has handled this......so let me fill you in on some things.

when my DD went to school, an organization called "ihigh" handled this for the state.....in my daughters junior or senior year, ihigh stopped doing this for some reason, and no one made "all state" that year....Pop Rivers stepped in and his organization started taking nominations for all state.....if we didnt have this organization, we likely wouldnt have anything, because the state athletic organization certainly wasnt going to fund someone to field these nominations...or keep track of who made what......like Pop Rivers has stated in the past: work in progress......

the blame fully falls on the current coaches, AD and principles who dont care to take the time to recoginize those players who deserve to be all state or all district......

If you have a problem with your school, take it up the ladder starting with the AD and then if that doesnt work, to your conference head AD....that usually shakes the tree....

    just advice

Well said. NCSCA stepped up and created a process where everyone can participate. Shame on those coaches who don't find it worth their time.

To the NCSCA, the coaches who participate, the coaches who volunteer their time to work on the selection committees, a big round of thanks!

As a parent that knows many of the coaches that work hard within the NCSCA, I want to thank them for everything they have done with the All District and All State process. Another thing that they deal with is the weekly polls during the season. A lot of people complain about the polls each week, but this again comes down to the coaches sending in their comments on the teams around the state. You cannot expect one or two people to know everything about every team across the state. My request to all coaches is to get involved and to all parents to push their coaches to get involved. This will improve softball in North Carolina and get our girls the recognition that they deserve.

No doubt the NCSCA is to be commended for all their effort.

The problem persists, though, with coaches not submitting names. I know some of the coaches who did not nominate anyone. I know they would do anything they could for their players. Therefore, I know it's not a matter of not caring.

I like the suggestion of contacting the AD's in addition to notifying the coaches, themselves. I also think better media releases would help.

I can't remember for sure but I believe the nominations are called for before the end of the season All Conference selections. If not (and even if they are) I will bring up the All State nominations during our conference meeting. That is the one time that I'm aware of that all the coaches are together.

We used to have a conference tournament at the end of the season but I guess they figured the girls were getting too much; and done away with it.

I know of a school in Garner where there are at least 3 girls there who should have easily made All Conference and All District, let alone All State. There coach never submitted there names. He did however submit one player who batted .188 for All Conference.
I have known Pop Rivers for a few years. Not nearly as much as some of you have known him. He does a some times, "Thankless" job. If you ever see him at showcases, talk with him. He is a pleasure to talk with.
Lastly, A special Thank you to Chip Adams. Another who does so much for girls high school softball in NC.
