if she was out of baseline, or the running path, she should be out

If the batter was in "fair" territory they are out. If in foul territory '' 3' running lane''their safe.

so if your in the baseline the catcher can plunk you and your out, but if your out of play to the right of the baseline your safe? doesn't seem to make much sense, but??

If they didn't have that rule, everyone would run inside the baseline to block that throw, to be safe, good rule to have. Makes sense, runners runs outside the baseline to keep from getting hit, and opens up the inside so the catcher or whoever fields the ball has a clean throw inside the baseline. Same rule at 3rd base, if the runner is at 3rd and the ball is hit and the runner is in fair terriority and they are hit by it, they are out, if it hits them in foul terriority, no out is called. Hope that makes a little more sense for you.

    whats the correct call??

1 out and runner on first base. Batter hits ball to deep RF, but base runner holds up (coach and runner sleeping ??). When she finally runs to second base; the right fielder has thrown the ball into 2nd base for the force out. Base hit for the batter or FC ?

Unfortunately for the batter. A fielders choice.

Did the batter-runner advance at least 30' from home plate before she was hit by the ball?

If the batter is hit with the ball before she reaches the 3' lane, which begins 30' from home plate, she would not be out, and the ball would be live.

If she was hit by the ball after she had reached the 3' lane, and she was outside the 3' lane she would be out for interference.

it was the first time our catcher had "plunked" a runner, and we were very surprised to get the out. Thanks everyone for clearing it up.
