Let me tell you what seperates them. Bottom line is Mcalpin and Gilmore were both thrown under the bus. Ichallange everyone to take a good look at the owls stats and judge from the stats only and post your three allstar pitchers. I really think it was poor judgement by the coaching staff on who to start and who to relieve and close. Hell just look at the starter records. relivers had as many and more wins than the so called starters did. Its not the players fault that the coaches would'nt let them start. start,relieve or close if you put up better numbers your more deserving right? I personally witnessed every game including road games and have been around baseball for many of years. coached some very good players and teams. Its a shame to see kids work their butts off and give their entire summers up only to be left out to make room for players who did'nt earn the spots they have been given. Some kids only played 3 innings all summer. Think they were given a chance. Its about giving all kids reps to make them better for their respective schools and working on kinks in their games. If they are not good enough to play dont accept their check. atleast look at their college stats before you decide to screw them over. These are the kind of things that put a team in last place and watching the playoffs. If i have made anyone mad well i ment to. I call it like i see it!!!!!!! makes me want to do this----------------------------

 

I think it is important that you all understand what goes on in the room for all-star voting. This league has grown leaps and bounds over the last 6 years and it continues to do so. When selecting the all-stars, each team starts by placing 2 pitchers and 2 position players on the roster. This is done in the order of your division standing. Either a coach/gm/or owner from each team designates these players. After those spots are filled, we start with a position. Each team nominates the guy that they choose. After all nominations are in for that position, the entire league (7 votes) puts their vote in. If your player is picked, you can put another guy on the board. This goes on until all spots are filled. I can promise you that the votes are done in the open, so we make sure the best guy (stats) is picked. If something doesn't look right, you probably have no further to look than your automatic picks. It is a shame if that happened in a particular case because we do our best to be objective and put the best product on the field. If the policy was abused, I am sure it will be reviewed by the league at the end of the year.

 

After taking in and enjoying a few SCBL games in support of local teams, the question on how the All Star players are place sparked a curiosity.

I had chance to go on the Statesville Owls website and at the request of Bigstars and was able to determine through the stats provided the 3 pitchers that looked like they should have made the All Star team were Daniel Sheaffer, Joey McAlpin and Stephen Gilmore.

With that said, I hope that there were no bias placed on players selected for the All Star Team. This seems to be a great league with endless opportunities for all the players.
