That says it all! That's how it should be.

    More than just pitching

I don't think all of the girls that pitch were selected solely on what they did in the circle. In many cases, a high school pitcher could also be one of the better hitters on the team or in the conference as well. So, if they look at the total body of work per player and not per position, I can see how so many pitchers could be on the main list.
Then you have pitcher of the year in east and west to recognize the stand out pitchers.

I agree that some were selected for things other than their pitching but that is what the "utility player" slot is for. Just would like to see it shortened down to 20 players in each classification 10 first team, 10 second team then it would have a little more meaning. Right now it basically means nothing.

It would help if the Coaches Association would post their definition for an "All-State" player.

What do you mean by "definition"?

The closest thing I can find to definition is the process for nominating a player. And the nominations can be by coaches and non-member coaches.

I can't speak for the entire state but I do know the YVC. I know the teams and players. SS the state champ has fewer all state players than two other teams. I know some will say that CC and East beat them twice so that settles it. If that's the case then it should be based on all conference. NM had two and they split with CC. West beat East and had none. NR had two and finished sixth. I went to the State East / West game and noticed the CC and NR coach coaching the West. Now I read the All-State list and CC has six or seven and NR had two. I know some people don't want to hear it but it's the coaches that are abusing the process. I would love to see how many each coach nominated. The all- state award is a honor, so come on coaches let's be fair in what we do.

Way to much talk about teams associated with this award, it does not have anything to do with how good or bad your team was. Being a State champion team does not really mean you have all the states best players; it simply means you have the best team. Most years the state champion have the best pitchers, a couple A type players, a couple B type and a good supporting cast. This award is all state players, it is possible to be the best player in the state and be on the worst team as long as someone is there to recognize it.

The numbers are not out of line to recognize the states best players based on pitching, fielding and hitting. All of that being said I do think the association could list a first team all state in each classification of about 12 players pulled out of the all state players to make the system a little better. politics is who you know not how you play!!!!

I know i'm a little late to the party but in our conference our school's pitchers went undefeated and yet neither made all conference or state.

I know of a girl that hit in the mid-.400's with several HR's and got money to play at the next level that did not make all-conference. Reason - coach didn't bother to nominate anybody from the team.

I thought the All-State award is for the player, how the player performs not her team. If I have a girl who hits .300 and my team reaches the playoffs, is she considered All-State? Or if I have a girl who bats .700 and not reach the playoffs, she is not considered? I know of a High School coach who is on the board. His daughter is awful, she made All-District and All-State 3 yrs in row and another girl on the team batted less then .300 and she made All-District and All-State. Granted they made the playoffs. It seems that All-District and All-State are voted by who makes the playoffs and who you know!!
