I am not going to bash showcase baseball or defend it. the only thing I will say is; I have never had a player get a scholarship (55+ so far) that the college coach has not spoken to me several times about.

O.K. I'll throw this scenario out there. I know of an underclassman who is a talented kid. SS, RHP, normally hits in the 1,2, or 3 spot. Fast runner, with a live arm and very good bat speed.

Plays on a below average HS team, and a way below average legion team. To my knowledge, no one is looking at him. Late Summer and Fall he plays on a travel team consisting of some teammates and kids from a few other schools. But they play in local weekend tournaments. While they may play showcase rules, these events aren't on college campuses and there are no college representatives in attendance.

He's the type of athletic talent that would do well at a prospect camp that ranks according to 60 time, throwing velocity, and measured bat speed.

My guess is that he'll probably try and play at a junior college and hope to get recruited to a four year school. Or his HS coach may have some connections to help him get recruited.

However, if he was playing showcase instead of the combination of teams he currently plays with, I think he would be noticed by several schools.

    rambling,
that is a possibility. my past experiences lately with showcase is they usually go to watch certain teams or certain people. for someone who is not on their radar (often times names HS coaches have given them- sometimes by the showcase coach) they have to really do something to stand out. HS coach SHOULD be able to and SHOULD help out in this situation. I have always thought it is part of my job to promote kids to colleges. I always send info out every fall and spring to notify colleges about POSSIBLE prospects. Sometimes it works out for them, sometimes it doesn't. But I feel strongly that if a high school coach gives colleges a players name they will at least LOOK and pay a little more attention to them during the showcase events etc. this is my opinion... I realize this and 65 cents may buy you a coke
