The D2 regionals in Mt. Olive get underway 5/16/13 with six teams viaing for a spot in Cary, NC at the D2 Championship later this month. Five of the six teams are nationally ranked.

The Peach Belt Conference (PBC) is well represented with three of the six teams.

#1 seed Mt. Olive – Nationally ranked #1 from Conference Carolina and their regular season champions.

#2 seed USC-Aiken – nationally ranked #3 from the PBC and regular season champions.

#3 seed Armstrong Atlantic – nationally ranked #14 from the PBC.

#4 seed Coker – nationally ranked #29 from Conference Carolina who won the conference end of season tournament.

#5 seed GA College – nationally ranked at #25 from the PBC. Won the end of season tournament.

#6 seed Lincoln Memorial from the South Atlantic Conference as regular season champions.

I am still bummed out that my UNC Pembroke Braves were excluded after posting a 38-16 record, beating both the #1 USC Aiken and #14 Lander teams in the PBC tournament by a combined score of 30-14, and they split the two regular season gmes with Coker.

At this time I like the chances of GA College based on what I saw in the regular season and PBC tournament. Only a #5 seed but we will see.

Good luck to all these six teams and may the regional champion do well in Cary, NC.

Day 1 - first two games

No surprise to me that #4 seed Coker College sent #3 seed Armstrong Atlantic reeling with a 11-3 thumping. Armstrong went winless in the PBC tournament and a lot of people were surprised they were picked as a regional seed.

Next up for Armstrong is fellow PBC member GA College tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. in an elimination game.

#5 seed GA College lost a heartbreaker to #2 seed/#3 nationally ranked USC Aiken (PBC regular season champ) 11-7 when Josh Miller hit a walk off grandslam HR on a 0-0 count in the bottom of the 9th!

USCA faces the winner of the game going on now between #1 seed/#1 nationally ranked Mt. Olive vs. #6 seed Lincoln Memorial tomorrw at 7:00 p.m.

The loser of the Mt. Olive vs Lincoln Memorial game plays Coker tomorrow at 3:00.

In day one this is shaping up to be a very good regional.

Armstrong Atlantic and Lincoln Memorial eliminated

The first two games today saw two teams sent packing with each suffering their second loss.

Armstrong Atlantic ended their season today with a fourth straight loss (two in the PBC tournament and two in the Southeast Regional) losing to Mt. Olive 7-3. The Trojans scored six unanswered runs.

In the first game played today, GA College sent Lincoln Memorial home with a convincing 12-0 win in an elimination game for both teams.

Tonight at 7:00 we have two undefeated teams in USC Aiken vs. Coker College.

Conference foes face off in round three

In the nightcap game today Coker College needed ten innings to defeat USC Aiken 2-1. Aiken pitchers were not able to record an out as the leadoff batter dbl, then a W, a HP and another W pushed across the winning run.

In round three games tomorrow we have two undefeated teams (Mt. Olive and Coker from the Carolina Conference) facing each other at 11:00 a. m. Since Mt. Olive swept Coker in the regular season Coker has won 17 of 20 games (including eliminating Mt. Olive in the conference tournament). Should be a great game.

In the 3:00 game we have an elimination game of PBC teams USC Aiken vs. GA College. The two teams did not face each other this season.

In the nightcap elimination game at 7:00 the loser of the 11:00 a. m. game will face the winner of the 3:00 game.

Mount Olive sent to elimination game

#4 seed Coker College (the hottest team in these regionals) in their first NCAA regionals sent nationally rank #1/seed #1 Mount Olive to the elimination bracket with a 5-3 win this afternoon. The Cobras led 5-0 headed to the bottom of the 7th and were able to hold off the Trojans. Coker's 4-7 batters combined for a 9 of 18 (team had a total of 10 hits!)today.

Coker now moves to the Championship game at 1:00 p.m. tomorrow. As Coker is undefeated all they need to do is win one game tomorrow.

Mount Olive can rest for a few hours before they play an elimination game for both teams in a 7:00 matchup tonight. The winner of the USC Aiken Pacers vs GA College Bobcats will matchup with Mount Olive with the winner needing to beat Coker twice tomorrow to win the regionals.

#3 ranked USC Aiken is eliminated

Fellow PBC member GA College Bobcats made quick work of the Pacers with a convincing 9-2 win. The loss eliminates Aiken and sends the Bobcats up against Mount Olive in a few minutes in an elimination game tonight. The winner moves on to play against the Cobras of Coker College tomorrow.
