Bogus player statistics.

We've been seeing bogus stats for one particular player at our HS for the last 3 years. Its good to know college coaches don't take what's reported on maxpreps too seriously. However, I strongly agree with you that bogus stats can help a below average player make an all-conference team ahead of much better performers. This one same player has been awarded all-conference status for playing OF when he never set foot in the outfield the entire season. My guess is, there was room for more OF nominees than pitchers that year. Our boy had a very poor performance on the mound that year. And how does someone who hits below .200 for 90% of the season (got a few hits in the last couple games of the season) and had a very poor performance on the mound, end up making All-Conference? This year, parents overheard coach instructing person keeping books to record one of our boy's (same boy) @bat as a double when it was clearly a reached by error. Ball got passed the centerfielder after tipping off his glove, thus, you have a double. All sorts of stats are patted this season. It hurts the real performers. It kills some player's motivation. It hurts the entire team. And we might just see this player wind up as our conference's player of the year.

 

I agree with Inquiringminds on the issues caused by bogus stats, it absolutely hurts those kids that are more deserving. I am wondering if any coaches can explain how a kid with a 1-7 record on the mound, who batted about .250 or lower, and played maybe 15-20 innings in the field makes all conference this year in the SCC?
