Just because Johnny jumps off a cliff doesn't mean you should or that it is right. Same holds true for softball championships. Just because other states treat girls subpar to boys when it comes to championships doesn't mean it is okay. Actually, the law saw says it is not. I would love to see NC be a leader and say, not in our state; we value our young women and they have earned the same championship location as the boys. No matter the gender, they all worked their asses off to get here, and WE will recognize that.

Lacey Waldrop was one of the clinicians at the annual rules clinic in Greensboro yesterday. Awesome pitcher, excellent speaker. Rising Senior.

Florida State pitcher Lacey Waldrop named national player of the year

Lindsay Leftwich, LSU, also gave some excellent instruction.

    Thank you to the NCHSAA.

Only suggestion I have is putting these speakers in front of more of the players. Seems like only about half the coaches are actually interested in the clinic. As witnessed by the capacity almost doubling when the time came for the mandatory rules session.

These ladies were what I would call specialty speakers. They would better benefit a targeted audience—like pitchers and catchers.

PS: Thank you to Mark Dreibelbis for the short inspirational message to the coaches in attendance. Sometimes you need to hear from others what the responsibility of being a coach means.

I have not posted on here in a while but I feel the need to respond. I agree that the 2 speakers at this years clinic were excellent. They had good info that could be used at the high school level and were very willing to answer questions during the sessions and after.

It is truly a shame more coaches did not take advantage of this opportunity. We often complain about people not respecting our sport and yet many of "us" don't even show respect ourselves.

It was also disappointing how many stayed to be part of the NCSCA Hall of Fame ceremonies. Needless to say there were only a handful representing each Region in the NCSCA meeting. This organization works hard to help our sport. Yes it had been a long day and many had a long drive home. But if you truly respect the sport and more importantly the young ladies playing it those extra few minutes are not too much to ask for.

Sorry for the long post but "WE" need to show respect for our sport and then we can ask others to do the same.

    Lead by example
