What is up with all the coaches leaving? Is CMS really that bad of a place to work? I can imagine that it would be very difficult to have a consistently strong fan base. There are too many schools and too much else to do in Charlotte. I think Charlotte has really outgrown itself to the point that it is very detrimental to the athletic programs. it also doesn't help parity and competition when CMS allows students to transfer and play where they want to. To me that is a killer to any real rivalries as all of the best players will just jump on the team that is hot at the moment. What you end up with is an All Star team and 19 wanna be's.

This is true. I know one of the coaches mentioned. I will try to get him to respond in this forum, but he may not want his identity revealed, so he probably won't be too specific.

But the gist of the problem relates to waaaaay to many hours and little compensation. The rewards of coaching are enormous, but one still has mouths to feed. There are so many other areas where coaches get paid much more. But this is just one area, Ironmaster described another problem

You are definitely talking about the East Meck coach. That is the main reason for his exit.

All coaches want is compensation for what they do. I think every coach in Meck County should be on a 11 month contract. And they should get compensation for opening the weightroom.

This is a must to win and you will get fired if you do not win.

Also a new coach in this system will make the same amount as Mr. Knotts and he been coaching for about 20 years. You could be fresh out of college and get the same compensation.

Some things definitely need to change!!!

I work with the wife of one of the assistants at Butler. I'll see what I can find out.

Regarding Barry Shuford at Butler, from a colleague of mine:

He has been looking & they gave him a deal he said he could not refuse. They gave him 5 acres to build a house & an unknow sum of money to go w/that. They told him he could have what he wanted in the weight room etc......

Yep.. I would doubt that he is going anywhere. He is making money on his ballfield.
