I heard through the grapevine that one of the better players from West Meck last year has transferred to Hopewell (as if they needed more senior talent). West Meck may struggle with the open moving around this year.

So far in the Meca8 (via EXTREMELY limited posts) it looks like

Hopewell - Loaded, have everything, need nothing.

Indy, North, Central Cabarrus: Either young or lacking depth but have talent.

West Meck, West Charlotte, Harding, Vance: Wait and see - but it may be a LONG season.

"The Providence supporters haven't reached this forum yet, but they will. The arrogance Providence has displayed in the past, left no room to give them credit... their in your face "we're better than you" attitude was hard to take. "

We're here, but we don't have much to say and I hope that it stays that way. It seems like the kids coming up are very different from past Providence players. I'd like to see them live down the reputation of being arrogant and just show what they've got on the field. Bragging is useless. All that matters is who has the most runs on the scoreboard at the end of the game.

    Glad to have you provfan

We needed some help rounding out the SW4A representation. It's going to be a dog-fight down there this year and I'm look forward to watching (from outside).

Welcome aboard Provdad. Glad you made it over here. You certainly are not the Providence supporter I described earlier. And I agree that the new generation is changing the image. Good luck this year and see you on the fields.

I stopped by to watch the varsity try-outs at West Rowan today. They looked pretty good for the first day out.

West will have a strong group of juniors this year that in the past have put up some pretty impressive numbers. 6 seniors are returning from last years squad and only 1 of those saw much playing time.

    Returning starters from last year

    Ryan Wilson, junior, catcher
    Paul Link, senior, LHP,1st,OF
    Brian Graham, junior, SS
    Seth Waller, junior, 3rd
    Patrick Adams, junior, RHP,OF

    Returning players & possible starters

    Chris McDaniel, junior, RHP,1st,OF
    Daniel Cauble,junior, RHP,1st
    Shane Graham, senior, 2nd
    Brandon Bailey,senior,OF
    Darren Jones, senior, OF
    D.J. Lyles, senior, OF
    Matthew Beck, senior, catcher, OF

JVs that are moving up to varsity (also possible starters)

    Luke Overcash, junior, OF
    Peter Allen, junior, RHP, OF
    Adam Taylor, Junior, OF
    Winston Horton, junior, IF
    Brett Hendricks, junior, OF
    Joe Bombo, junior, OF

This is just the list that were there today. Try-outs for sophomores and freshmen will be tomorrow. Most of whom will probably play JV ball this year with maybe a few exceptions. My own opinion would be that varsity maybe in need of an infielder or two.
The defensive skills are there so who actually starts will probably depend on who swings the stick. Based on past history, it wouldn't surprise me if the top seven in the line up bat .300 or better and the top 4 or 5 .400 or better.

Great info Southpaw...you hit that pretty solid.

Do you know some more posters from the Big South, so we can have some good discussions

West Rowan has a good sophomore LHP don't they? I seem to remember hearing about him and seeing him during the summer months. Can't remember the last name but it was Craig......

There were posters on the "old board" from South Point and East Gaston. Maybe we can go back there and get some of them to move here?

No one has posted on the old baseball board in about 3 weeks. I check it periodically to see if anyone is adding messges.

We're probably going to have to spread the board by word-of-mouth when we visit other schools in our conferences and run into old friends and teammates

After watching those who showed for pratice today at Ashbrook, here's a listing of posible position players, in no particular order:

    Cale Bradley, jr, OF
    Sammy Asis, jr, OF/IF
    Wes McCall, jr, LHP/OF
    Garrett Scarborough, sr/OF
    Brad Falls, sr/OF
    Michael Maples, so/LHP/OF

    Drew Martin, so/IF
    Josh Duncan, so/RHP/IF
    Michael Bogaert, so/C/IF
    Michael Briggs, jr/IF
    Matt Volk, jr/IF
    Josh Burleson, jr/IF

    Steve Klenovic, jr/C/IF
    Matt Cornwell, jr/C/IF

There maybe others playing basketball who will come in and out over the next week or two. Other Sophs/Fresh may also contribute to the varsity team.
