Last year the SW4A was left with 2 20 win teams out of the playoffs, and the conference was ranked in the top 10 in America. One of two conferences that had five teams with ten wins after twelve games in America and they didn't get the fourth seed, but this year the conference is strong again and four solid teams should be representing the conference this year in Myers Park, East Meck, Providence, and South Meck. I would not want to be a #1 seed that gets Providence or South Meck or the #2 seed in the first round. Looks like South Caldwell gets Myers Park or East Meck. What a prize for winning the conference;)

    S. Caldwell has not won, nor wrapped up the NW4A conference championship nor have they attained the #1 seed yet. there is still a chance S. Caldwell can finish in 3d place...

A 64 team bracket would be "fun" but it's not really reasonable. That would give you 32 teams each for the West and the East ....

To take an example ...In the West for each classification, # of teams:
4A: 41 .... How are you going to choose the 9 to leave home?
    3A: 46 .... 32 in, 14 out
    2A: 46 .... 32 in, 14 out ... just like 3A
1A: 35 .... all but 3 teams would make states???
    Total: 168 schools

    Option #1
48 IS a reasonable #, assignable on a rotational basis .... that way, roughly HALF lf the teams (much more than half in 1A) would make the states. You don't want it to get TOO big and you would like some reward for the regular season conference champions and tournament champions .... like 1st round byes ......

    Option #2
We are closer to needing 5 divisions in NC instead of the current 4. With 5 divisions, each sending 16 teams to states, you could divide the conferences up:
    1A: 34
    2A: 34
    3A: 34
    4A: 34
    5A: 32
    Total: 168 schools

There is nothing wrong with saying a school is a 3A football school and a 4A baseball school. The disadvantage of this method is obviously travel distances. The 5A school list would be kinda arbitrary and not based on a real size but centered around metropolitan areas to cut expenses to the schools. The NW4A would still be 4A, along with the PAC6, but the SW4A, Meca 8 and a combination of the Metro 6 + CCC would be the 5A's ..... Some of the smaller schools in the SW4A and Meca 8 would form an separate 4A conference (Harding, Waddell, West Meck ....) Rapidly growing schools like Ashbrook and East Gaston would move to the 5A classification.

    Just a thought ........

I'm not a South Caldwell fan at all. I live in Charlotte. just based on the standings it looks like they will finish first in the NW4A. I did not know that McDowell and South Caldwell still had to play. Sorry about jumping to conclusions. I tend to do that sometimes McDowell is tough year in and year out, and a real good team in the playoffs who want to get a step or two farther than last year. I'd like to see them get in the playoffs, but I wouldn't like to face McDowell (especially with Taylor on the mound). You have to admit though, for the team winning the NW4A, it is a pretty raw deal to get the #2 team from the SW4A instead of getting the #4, or #3. But each matchup in the playoffs should be closely contested regardless. Good luck on tonights game McDowell fans. By the way. Met a kid up there (should be around 18 now) with only one arm, and he always hung around the baseball fields and loved the game more than almost anyone I'd ever met. If you know who I'm talkin about, how's he doin? He's probably hanging around a ballfield somewhere I'm sure
