Should being a senoir affect starting positions?

fence, i agree with you that too many parents yak about how their children dont get to play and what not. half of them dont even help out with the team and just spend their time yelling at the other team and umpires.
even though it's sometimes good to let seniors enjoy their last moments by playing, i noticed at the butler and hopewell game, for example, only two juniors played in the field..the rest were seniors. i believe no more than 3 seniors were on the bench that game. but still..seniors were the majority that game.

 

so your telling me (fence) that you work your butt off the whole season just to play a little ball and dont care if you win or loose???

CC Coaching

I have read this forum for quite some time for news updates and entertainment. I have never registered to participate...until now. I was disturbed enough by Scout2B's comments about the coaching at CCHS that I felt it warranted a response from someone who knows the coach. First of all, I do not have a child playing at Central so my reply is not biased by playing time etc. Coach Hill is the best thing that has happened to Central Cabarrus. She knows the game and has a true good heart. She plays the player that deserves to play and the one that should be playing in each and every position. I know for a fact that it is not all about winning states so she can get noticed and picked up by a college. What coach doesn't want to win? What player doesn't want to win? Coach Hill wants it for her players. She has no game plan to benefit from winning states. She has gotten a lot of hassles this year that she truly didn't deserve. But then I guess all coaches have their baggage to deal with, some is just worse than others. I firmly believe we need more qualified coaches like Coach Hill and fewer parents involved.
I have seen more than a few softball games over the last 10 years....... I've seen good coaches and bad coaches.....
I consider Coach Hill to be one of the BEST. CCHS is very fortunate indeed.

i have no clue about the individual circumstances
but i do know that sometimes stats are misleading
your go- to pitcher may not have the best stats BECAUSE she is your go- to pitcher
if your second pitcher throws against the lower echelon teams her stats sure will look better
don't know if this applies or not but
just something to think about....

I have no dog in this fight either. But feel like I need to comment on Coach Hill. I have known Janine since her UNCC days and she has worked with my daughter at many of their camps.
She is a great person and truely cares about the game and the players. To be honest if she wanted to coach at the college level she would already be their.
As far as HS ball not being about winning or losing, how long will a coach have a coaching spot if they consistantly lose?
Yes it is also about teaching the game and lessons on life, but in the real world you are rewarded on your ability to preform, not your age or time with the company.
So I say play your best no matter if they are freshman or seniors.
What do you teach the rest of the team by playing a senior over an underclassman that has better skills?

 

Well said Dawgfan. Coach Hill COULD already be coaching at the collegiate level if that was her driving desire. She's a class act and knows her stuff.

 

Softballfever; I saw every game SC played this year and both the pitrchers did very well. I don't see how you can say pitching was SC's problem when they went 18-3 won the conference and conference tournament. That don't sound like they had a problem.
There were games where both pitchers had to be taken out this year because they weren't getting the job done and would have lost if the change was not made. As for the East Burke game I think Winebarger had a one hitter going into the eigth inning if I remember right and all the runs so far were unearned and very few if any balls had been hit hard till the girl hit the homerun. I don't think any body would take a girl out of a game with a one hitter going. One of the coaches also told me before the Myers Park game Winebarger had allowed only 1 run in the last 30 innings she pitched so i don't think her being a senoir was the reason she pitched this game. I really don't see what the problem is as Reid and Winebarger both did a great job this year and worked well together. If the parents would stay in the stands and keep their mouths shut we wouldn't even be having this discussion

 

I don't think the gripes with CC coach is about playing time except when they have such a commanding lead and the bench is still not played. You say she has a good heart - this is only true when it comes to about five players on her team. The rest of the team is totally ignored. There are a lot of problems at CC and they don't have to do with winning. They have to do with respect and inspiration. A lot of the CC players have been so demoralized that they have lost their love of the game and these are players who do play all the time. Just something to think about when you put a person in to coach young girls. What is more important!

 

Pit-A-Pat, I couldnt agree with you anymore. Coach Hill only has heart for about 5 players on the team. UNLESS you have been there at the practices and talked to the players YOU WOULDNT KNOW so please do not come on these posts and explain how you know her and she has a heart. Just because you know her doesnt mean she has heart to her CC players. She does know the game BUT she's not someone i would want to coach with. I have talked with a few of the CC girls and unforuntly they have lost their love for the game because of the way Coach hill is. Thats sad enough to see Great ball players get that way because of one coach. There are alot of problems going on with CC and one of the problems is not about playing time. Dont bring up playing time when discussing CC. Thank you
